Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer the Manager, Actuarial and Strategy will be responsible for development and implementation of an actuarial strategy to support the profitability of the business through pricing, with consideration to internal and external factors that drive the insurance sector.

Roles & Responsibilities

Actuarial
•Conduct actuarial valuations for financial and regulatory reporting to ensure compliance with the relevant regulations;
•Monitor the performance of the existing products against competitor activities in order to make recommendations that enhance sales volume and profitability;
•Participate in product development to ensure the design, pricing and setting in the relevant system is compliant with the relevant regulatory requirements, and support the sales process;
•Conduct data analysis of the factors that affect the insurance industry in order to make appropriate actuarial recommendations that enhance the performance of the business;
•Conduct analysis on capital requirements to assist the business develop strategies that are well informed
•Extract and analyze data for the purpose of conducting optimal actuarial analysis;
•Conduct Experience Analyses for the purpose of valuations, product development, risk management and management information;
•Prepare dashboards and disseminate for purposes of management information and risk management;
•Coordinate the preparation of regulatory actuarial reports as per the required reporting timelines are prepared and submitted for compliance;
•Prepare Industry analysis and peer review to provide market intelligence;
•Establish relationships with the relevant stakeholders to ensure the business receives the required support for profitability; and
•Coordinate the development of staff in the department to ensure the availability of competencies that support the provision of quality actuarial services to the business.

Strategy and Innovation
•Coordinate the strategy development process across the business to ensure timely development of a quality business strategy for all functions;
•Monitor and report on the strategy implementation process to ensure gaps in implementation are identified and addressed in a timely manner;
•Coordinate research to support the development of strategies that are competitive.

Requirements

To be appointed to the Manager Actuarial and Strategy role, the successful candidate must have;
•Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science. Master’s Degree is an added advantage;

•Advise the board on all legal matters to ensure the decisions arrived at Board Level do not expose the business to preventable legal risks;
•Assess judgments against insured persons and the company to ascertain their legal foundations, advice the company on chances of a successful appeal, and to determine the professionalism of legal representation therein;
•Maintain the statutory registers and secretarial files to ensure confidentiality, safekeeping from loss and tear, ease in retrieval, as well as accuracy and completeness of information;
•Prepare and file annual returns in line with the provided guidelines to ensure Sonarwa General Insurance is fully compliant;
•Coordinate the development of legal documents for relationships that the Sonarwa General Insurance businesses are party to, to ensure the interests of the businesses are legally covered;
•Coordinate the contracting and performance management of external lawyers to ensure only qualified lawyers are hired, and that they perform as per the agreed terms of contracting;
•Coordinate and conduct legal due diligence on any mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures undertaken by the business to ensure the businesses are protected from any risks associated with such transactions;
•Serve in the various committees in the business as required by law to ensure legal expertise is provided;
•Register all patents and logos for the businesses to ensure full protection of the Sonarwa General Insurance intellectual property;
•Monitor changes in the legal environment and advise management in a timely manner to ensure timely decisions are made to address the changes;
•Monitor compliance with the Sonarwa General Insurance Code of Conduct to advise on steps to be undertaken to address noncompliance;
•Approve payment of legal fees and judgments and or discharge vouchers for prudence in cost management;
•Appoint Arbitrators in line with Company Policy guidelines, monitoring arbitration, protecting the company’s position using the resources at disposal; and
•Supervise the performance of the staff in the department to facilitate retention, high motivation, training and development, and high performance.

•Plan, guide and monitor execution of adhoc audit assignments and testify as an expert witness on investigation findings; and

•Coordinate the development of procurement plans to ensure procurement is aligned with the requirements of the business strategy;
•Coordinate the procurement budget for prudent allocation of resources in the procurement process;
•Coordinate user training on the procurement process to enhance awareness across the business;
