Job Title: Coordinator Science

No. of vacancies 01 (one)

Duty station: RBC-Kigali

Job Purpose:

To support Rwanda FETP efforts at publishing, growing and sustaining her funding and partner
base.

Key responsibilities:

1. Resource mobilization and partner engagement (10%)

 Participate in developing annual funding goals for AFENET and RFETP, and efforts
towards meeting them.
 Routinely perform partner searches for suitability to engage with AFENET and RFETP
 Participate in development of advocacy materials for AFENET and RFETP
 Participate in partner engagement efforts/meetings as needed.
 In instances of partnerships, ensure that AFENET’s and RFETP`s interests are taken care
of through execution of teaming and other relevant agreements.

2. Project development: (20%)

 Develop concept notes on areas of RFETP interest.
 Research, synthesize and share funding opportunity announcements of interest to RFETP
 Lead the process of obtaining internal approval for grant pursuit, including setting up a
writing team.
 Coordinate the proposal writing process, ensuring internal and donor timelines are met.
 Ensure project proposals and all submissions are compliant with donor requirements.
 Manage communication with grant agencies during grant development, submission,
review, and approval and coordinate any necessary pre-award functions, including
maintaining active registration for AFENET and RFETP in relevant databases.

 

3. Project management support: (10%)

 Organize project initiation meetings, ensuring orientation of project teams on contractual
obligations and other obligations for all new projects.
 Collaborate with others to ensure to ensure timely submission of partner-compliant reports
 Track assigned AFENET Subcontractors in Rwanda, ensuring deliverables are met.
Maintain an archive of all related documents.
 Keep track of assigned RFETP contracts, ensuring contractual obligations are met,
including but not limited to reporting, notices, etc.
 Coordinate the closeout of assigned projects, ensuring all necessary documentation is
submitted in a timely manner.
 Independently provide advisory support to project management teams.
 Coordinate the development, review and submission of prior approval requests.
 Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

4. Scientific Writing (60%)

 Responsible for overseeing writing manuscripts for the RFETP (aka Advanced FETP)
residents and MoH as needed.
 Support statistical analysis of work done by trainees, Program Staff and MoHEpidemiology Staff
 Work closely with the program staff to develop manuscripts for various projects and will
ensure timely submission of papers for publication
 Take the lead in following-up with the authors and the journal until the paper is accepted
for publication
 Develop and maintain a log/database of all publications from the RFETP
 Work together with the Program Staff to organize and conduct Scientific Writing
Workshops for Trainees, RFETP Staff and MoH-Epidemiology Staff
 Review all the RFETP abstracts and manuscripts and presentations to ensure scientific
integrity of these products prior to approval before submission to conferences and journals
 Work together with the other RFETP and MoH Epidemiology Staff to write concepts,
expressions of interest, and/or proposals for any new initiatives that may arise during the
contract period
 Support documentation of key projects, Success stories and findings to be included in the
RFETP archives
 Any other duties that may be assigned to you from time to time by your supervisor

Required qualifications and experience:

 Masters’ degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Global/International Health, and/or Project
Management/Planning or related field.

 First degree in MBcHB (desirable) or its equivalent
 Computer proficiency and knowledge of statistical software like Epi-info and/or STATA
 Minimum of three years’ (3) experience in field epidemiology or applied public health practice

Desirable:

 Training in project management is desired advantage.
 Experience working with a variety of donor agencies.

Language Skills:

Essential: Expert knowledge of English.
Desirable: Beginners knowledge of French.

FETP Mentor at AFENET (FETP Rwanda): (Deadline 3 December 2021)

Job Title: FETP Mentor

Job purpose:

The Epidemiologist will serve as a Mentor for the field epidemiology training program in Rwanda
conducting in class training & on job mentorship for surveillance & other public health workers
enrolled into the training program. They will ensure course participants acquire the desired skills
& competencies for improved diseases detection & timely surveillance in Rwanda.
The Epidemiologist will work in coordination with the Resident Advisor and support the Resident
Advisor in all FETP activities. He/she will participate in the instruction of trainees during the Basic
Epidemiology Course and provide mentorship support during the training and in the field.

Major responsibilities:

Work with the in-country FETP Frontline Resident Advisor, Ministry of Health, CDC, AFENET
and other partners to:

 Develop and implement a training plan for Field Epidemiology trainings for surveillance
officers and other public health professionals in Rwanda.
 Review and adapt the existing Field Epidemiology curriculum and training materials as
may be required to suite the specific needs of Rwanda.
 Ensure availability of all the required logistics for the didactics and field mentorship of
selected participants.
 Conduct the planned field epidemiology trainings for surveillance officers and other public
health workers in the country.
 Provide mentorship, coaching and supervision for the trainees during the field placement
periods to ensure acquisition of key field epidemiology skills and competencies.
 Provide technical assistance to trainees in preparing their presentations for local and
national level dissemination of the key findings and recommendations from their field
projects.
 Participate in disease surveillance, outbreak investigation together with the trained
surveillance officers as a means to demonstrate best practices and enhance the skills &
competencies of the trainees.
 Assist with the evaluation of the impact of the FETP program on participants’ skills & core
competencies as well as on the general public health surveillance systems in Rwanda.
 Assist with the development and update regularly a database for all the FETP alumni in the
country.
 Prepare regular and timely technical reports on program implementation in Rwanda for
submission to AFENET, CDC, MoH and other partners.
 Supervise the AFENET Corps of Disease Detectives (ACoDD) teams during their
deployment.
 Any other duties as shall be assigned by the resident advisor to ensure achievement of the
FETP objectives in Rwanda.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications and Skills

Academic qualifications:

 Minimum of a Masters’ Degree in Public health, Epidemiology or related field from an
accredited program.
 Training in Advanced Field epidemiology is a preferred advantage.
 Experience working in strengthening public health systems in Sub-Saharan African.
 Experience working with the FETPs.
 Experience mentoring

Required functional competences:

 Excellent written and verbal communication and highly developed collaboration and
networking skills
 A proactive approach to work and a high level of initiative.
 Able to work with minimal supervision, as well as being a strong team player.
 Highly developed organizational skills, with the ability to meet agreed targets and to handle
multiple projects concurrently.
 Proficiency in both oral and written English and French.

Job Purpose:

The primary responsibility as a Transport Associate/Driver is moving individuals as well as
properties in a timely, safe and courteous manner

Duties and responsibilities:

 Operating and carrying staff in the assigned official motor vehicle
 Maintain documentation for administrative use such as mileage and trip authorization tracking information
 Assist to process applications and renewal of motor vehicle licenses, fees and any other documentation
 Receive and ensure that office mail is delivered to respective destinations and follow through
 Maintain vehicles’ logs and liaise with Administrator for regular review
 Ensure that the office vehicle is in good mechanical and functional condition

 Witness and ensure that defects are fixed at the contractual garage
 Report all safety, security and driving incidents to the line supervisor as soon as possible
 Ensure routine check-up of vehicle and comply with the laws and AFENET Transport policy.
 Should be able to multi-task, work for long hours and in stressful environments whilst maintaining professional composure
 May be required to frequently travel between organization worksites and should be willing to stay in the field for longer periods.
 Ensure that the assigned Vehicle is clean at all times.
 Handle any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

Qualification & Competency requirements:

 Secondary School Certificate of Education, High School Diploma
 A valid driver’s license of class A,B,C
 3-5 years’ experience in driving and record of service from a reputable organization
 A qualification in motor vehicle transport management or related field will be of an
added advantage

Other Competences:

The preferred candidate must have the following competencies: –
