Position Summary

During the construction of the campus, MASS Build will need a Storekeeper to oversee the inventory management of materials.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with site managers in placing orders to ensure continuous availability of the materials
  • Manage inventory requisitions, purchase order receipts, materials received register (MRR), storage, dispatch, and inventory control
  • Maintain stock register & assets stock register
  • Inform the supervisor on the exact quantities delivered as soon as they are received
  • Code and label all materials in the store
  • Take weekly stock check of all materials at the site
  • Submit weekly reports on materials received, used, damaged and transferred to other sites/warehouses
  • Ensure cleanliness and health safety measures in the store at all times
  • Ensure that storekeeping standard systems are properly maintained
  • Assess the availability of space and prepare stacking/storage plans prior to commodities arrivals
  • Perform any other related duties as requested by management

Desired Skills and Traits

  • A degree in Management and any related fields with experience in construction works
  • Advanced skills in Excel and other Microsoft Office tools
  • High integrity
  • Excellent communication skills

Fluent in English and Kinyarwanda

Landscape Team Leader AT Mass Design Group

MASS is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable full-time Senior Landscape Associate to lead our landscape design team in our Kigali office.

MASS seeks to create innovative design approaches that improve people’s lives in measurable ways. We create environments that promote health and dignity. Throughout the construction process, we collaborate with the communities our buildings will serve, approaching every project as a chance to invest in their future. Our work has expanded to work in over a dozen countries in Africa and the Americas with a portfolio of design services that spans architectural design, master planning, landscape architecture, engineering, and strategic planning. Current cross-disciplinary projects for engagement include projects in conservation, education, healthcare and urban design.

The ideal candidate will excel in team building, project management, directing landscape design, and thought leadership. This person will manage the landscape architecture portfolio for the Kigali office, direct team development, and participate in the pursuit of new business development opportunities. The position entails working collaboratively and across disciplines to tackle unique design problems across the globe. It will require creativity and judgment to meet the unique challenges of the role and to help to envision and articulate the MASS strategy for landscape design in Africa.

The position we are seeking to fill is based in Kigali, Rwanda, with possibility of travel required for regional, national and global work.  Applicants able to work across multiple disciplines, in international settings, and with mentorship experience are highly valued.

Desired Skills:

  • 10 years of experience working on all phases of the design management and process including: development of design documents, construction detailing, technical detailing, engineering coordination, management of construction documents, and coordination of project consultants
  • Track record of openly and effectively communicating with clients and senior staff as well as mentoring and training junior staff
  • Experience managing and inspiring the design process, construction administration, team development and research
  • Skill in developing clear work plans, establishing clear project roles, tracking schedules, building standards and empowering team members
  • Deep understanding of the fiduciary and contractual responsibilities of a professional landscape architect, the ability to complete and manage reports, estimates, and budgets
  • Commitment to applying the MASS methodology and enforcing high project standards while maintaining flexibility and humility toward the clients and communities we serve
  • Professional license in country of origin

MASS.Build is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable full time Fore(wo)man to lead a team for the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund campus construction project in Kinigi, Musanze.

The successful Fore(wo)man will hold the following responsibilities within the project. We will need someone to oversee the construction of these items, with a team of skilled and unskilled staff. Their duties are outlined as follows:

  • Identify and plan for the required materials, labor, and equipment required to complete assigned tasks
  • Lead and mentor their team to complete tasks and maintain team morale
  • Develop Method Statements that accurately describe how to complete tasks successfully and safely
  • Coordinate with other Fore(wo)men to fully utilize available resources
  • Accurately track daily tasks as they are completed or identify why delays occurred
  • Contribute to positive and equitable work environment
  • Maintain a professional attitude in any situations when representing the company or client.

DESIRED SKILLS

  • An engineering degree or relevant technical degree
  • 3-5 years minimum proven experience in large projects
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate and report effectively
  • Fluent both in Kinyarwanda and English
  • Driver’s license (optional, but preferred)

The MASS Engineering team has grown significantly over the last five years, and now employs 20 staff across Structural, Civil and MEP disciplines. We are looking to hire an Electrical Engineer to join our Kigali office. This proactive individual will support the multi-disciplinary Engineering Team and contribute to the design and construction of sustainable buildings and their systems, all within an encouraging and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

Supporting the electrical engineering team in delivering coordinated designs in line with budget, schedule and project mission statement
Electrical design calculations and analysis
Equipment selection
Drafting construction documentation in accordance with MASS Engineering quality management standards

Associate Mechanical and Plumbing Engineer AT Mass Design Group

 

The MASS Engineering team has grown significantly over the last five years, and now employs 20 staff across Structural, Civil and MEP disciplines. We are looking to hire an Associate Mechanical & Plumbing Engineer with experience in sustainable design and building physics to join our Kigali office. This collaborative individual will support our multi-disciplinary Engineering Team and play a key role in the design and construction supervision of building services for MASS projects. You will lead the M&P design of medium to large projects, and will be responsible for guiding and leading the junior engineers working for you. A key aspect of the MASS approach to M&P engineering is a desire to integrate innovative sustainable and low-energy solutions wherever possible. You will be responsible for researching and implementing appropriate technologies on our projects. Once projects reach site you will work alongside the site team to monitor the contractor’s work, ensuring that it is aligned with the design, and leading the response to contractor queries and requests.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads delivery of coordinated mechanical (HVAC) and plumbing design in line with budget, programme and project mission statement
  • Works collaboratively with MASS architects, structural, civil and electrical engineers
  • Ensures that M&P designs are produced in accordance with MASS Engineering quality management standards
  • Researches and implements sustainable solutions
  • Manages and trains junior engineering staff
  • Supports MASS architecture in appropriate concept and scheme designs

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Degree in science or engineering with strong basis in mechanical systems, physics and mathematics
  • Ability to manage and deliver a medium project effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent environmental, mechanical and plumbing design expertise, including passive and active cooling systems, natural and mechanical ventilation, rainwater and foul water drainage and hot and cold water services etc.
  • Ability to use energy and thermal modelling software such as IES and EnergyPlus, or ability to conduct complex building and system analysis in Excel
  • Ability to produce design documentation for all project stages, including drawings, specifications and design reports
  • Ability to manage others to produce design work
  • Strong interdisciplinary coordination skills

The Position

We are looking to hire an additional Civil Engineer or Senior Civil Engineer to strengthen the team’s capacity as well as providing design leadership to the more junior members of the team.

The position will report to Harriet Kirk (Senior Associate), who leads the MASS civil engineering team in Kigali. You will lead the civils design of medium to large projects, and will be responsible for guiding and leading the junior engineers working for you. A key aspect of the MASS approach to civil engineering is a desire to integrate innovative sustainable and low-energy solutions wherever possible. You will be responsible for researching and implementing appropriate technologies on our projects. Once projects reach site you will work alongside the site team to monitor the contractor’s work, ensuring that it is aligned with the design, and leading the response to contractor queries and requests.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to manage and deliver a medium project effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent general civils design expertise, including access, grading, retaining, site utilities networks, stormwater management and wastewater treatment
  • Ability to produce design documentation for all project stages, including drawings, specifications and design reports
  • Ability to manage others to produce design work
  • Strong interdisciplinary coordination skills, particularly with Landscape Architecture;
  • Experience in site assessments for early design stages
  • Understanding of typical construction practices and a desire and ability to push for improvements where necessary;Positive and proactive attitude with an emphasis on design quality and attention to detail
  • Ability to supervise a range of civil works on site, with emphasis on quality

  • Chartered or near-Chartered Engineer with recognised engineering institution;
