CORPORATE BACKGROUND:
UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results. UNDP is working to strengthen new frameworks for development, disaster risk reduction and climate change. We support countries’ efforts to achieve the new Sustainable Development Goals, which will guide global development priorities through 2030. The key 2030 Agenda principle of leaving no one behind and stamping out inequality is at the core of everything we do. UNDP focuses on helping countries build and share solutions in three main areas:
INTERNSHIP OFFICE BACKGROUND: The UNDP Rwanda Country Office has three programme units; Sustainable Growth Unit, Transformational Governance Unit and Inclusive Green Economy Unit, as well as programme support units which include the operations (Finance, HR, Procurement, and ICT), Management Support and Communications. UNDP has been a long-term partner in Rwanda, supporting the national development journey particularly in the area of poverty eradication, environment protection, access to justice, democratic governance and gender equality and women empowerment. The Sustainable Growth Unit has a big portfolio on Environment, with which the intern will be working. This portfolio encompasses Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services including forests, Sustainable Land Management and Desertification including food and commodity systems, Water and Ocean Governance, Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation, Renewable and Modern Energy, Chemicals and Waste Management, Environmental Governance and Green/Circular Economy. The work on these areas includes crosscutting themes on innovative finance, digital transformation, capacity development, human rights, gender equality, health, technology, and south-south learning. As an intern, you will be supporting the work on these areas, with focus on Biodiversity Conservation and Natural Resource Management, through the duties described in the section below. |
