A reputable Agribusiness Company operating in Rwanda is seeking a dynamic and charismatic industry professional to take up the role of Agronomist. The services company will work in line with the Government of Rwanda ’s short, middle, and long-term vision 2050 for the agriculture sector. (About GoR’s NST1) for the sector, by modernizing and increasing the productivity of agriculture. The company also seeks to also see social economic impact through community empowerment (gained skills in modern agriculture), job creation and general developmental impact at large.
On behalf of our clients, we are looking for competent and experienced Agronomist. The primary role will be to ensure good management of a large farm and high production.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
This position requires a strong, practical knowledge of agricultural skills and crop management. In order to be considered for the role applicants will need to have relevant farm management experience with a solid track record and the ability to work independently as well as manage field labor force. Agronomist will be responsible for crop plantations, crop rotations, harvesting Maize and Soyabean, harvesting, strategic planning, budgeting & record keeping.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Your primary role is to ensure that expected production is always met. You will be accountable for the delivery of expected yields from the farms.
- Monitors the quality and yield of the crop production, Crop rotation planning and hybrid/variety selection recommendations and provides 24-hour agronomy expertise and service to the farmers
- Train and Supervise Agronomy Staff, Farm staff and other field labor resources to ensure that efficient and effective Agronomy services and assistance are timely provided to the Business
- Crop budgeting and planning, record keeping and prepare and present detailed field reports to the lead supervisor and management.
- Monitors compliance and manages the development of field labor management and coordinate the harvestings and advising the management of daily harvestings,
- Visiting fields to collect seed, plant, and soil samples and testing samples for nutritional deficiencies, diseases, or other changes.
- Ensuring that the individual responsible for logistics observes proper transportation and documentation of produce from the field to the grain storage and handling facility
- Researching, developing, and promoting farming practices or products that diminish the effects of changes in soil, climate, and weather or prevent damage from pests
- Ensuring that proper insect, weed, and disease monitoring / diagnostics is carried out on the farm and Assisting with the plant selection process and the development of irrigation, implementing modern agricultural practices, digitalization, and precision farming.
- Ensuring the produce meets the international buyer requirements. Particularly the relevant accreditation and certification.
- Researching and making chemical, fertilizer, and seed recommendations to lead to higher yields. And proactively promote and inform sales team on current and potential upcoming agronomic issues that affect growing crops.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Undergraduate Degree in Agriculture or an equivalent Agricultural Science related field.
- At least 3 to 5 years professional experience in managing the field services component of a large-scale commercial operations of Maize and/or Soyabean.
- Growing Milling wheat, Sunflower seed, potatoes and/or Chilly peppers will be an added advantage
- Have at least 3 years of field experience in agriculture, crop production and seeds
- Sound knowledge of fertilizer and chemical products with fertilization recommendations.
- Aptitude to using the latest communication and network technologies to interact with growers, customers or other growers

- Good experience crop planning and seasonal budgeting and forecasting
- Good Kinyarwanda and English skills in speaking and writing
- Energetic/driven who can independently manage projects
