Job description
The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a programme for violence prevention and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. CPS professionals provide long-term support to people on the ground in their commitment to dialogue, human rights and peace. The GIZ’ regional CPS programme “Fostering peace literacy and civil society networks in the Great Lakes Region” aims to promote peace skills and civil society networks in the region. The sought-after CPS advisor is to advise 1) the Centre for Research and Action towards Sustainable Peace (CRASPD) of the Partner Organisation (PO) Protestant Institute of Art and Social Sciences (PIASS) of the CPS programme and 2) other POs or groups of POs from the three countries in developing and implementing projects at regional level. The programme is currently undergoing a strategic reorientation process which may result in redefining the focus of the position.
Your tasks
- Development and implementation of training and further education courses on instruments and methods of peace work
- Strengthen institutional structures to consolidate and enhance the CRASPD capacity to provide quality training and other peacebuilding programmes
- Build capacity and dynamise the Peace Club of PIASS, established mainly by Rwandan and international peace and conflict studies students at PIASS to develop peacebuilding interventions, with a particular focus on networking youth peace activists and their participatory initiatives in the Great Lakes Region
- Development of practical methods for implementing peace and reconciliation processes in the framework of the advice to CRASPD as well as other Partner Organisation (PO) of the regional programme
- Support of strategic orientation towards networking CRASPD with various actors based on the multi-level approach
- Teaching in the Bachelor’s degree programme “Peace and Conflict Studies” at the PIASS University of Applied Sciences
- Curriculum development for peace capacity building in civil society organisations: The development of courses and curricula shall take place in direct response to the educational needs of Non-governmental-organisations, faith-based institutions and student groups engaged in peace and justice in Rwanda and other countries in the Great Lakes Region
- Development and implementation of regional projects that will be jointly implemented by CRASPD and POs in Burundi and Democratic Republic (DR) of the Congo under the overarching theme of nonviolent conflict transformation and community dialogue
Your profile
- Master’s degree in peace and conflict studies or comparable education relevant to peace work; holding a Doctor of Philosophy is an added advantage
- Experience-based skills as a trainer in peacebuilding tools and methods
- Experience in programme and project development in the field of peace building
- Good knowledge of organisational development methods
- High level of intercultural competence
- Willingness and interest to get involved in the organisational culture of a university in sub-Saharan Africa oriented towards Christian values
- Teaching experience in a university context is an advantage
- Fluent in English and French
