Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship Program: (Deadline Ongoing)

The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship Program accepts applications from recent undergraduate and graduate school graduates for full-time, six to nine-month fellowships in Washington, DC. The fellowship aims to allow recently graduated college students to develop real-world knowledge and skills by working with nonprofit, public-interest groups that address peace and security concerns. To collaborate with nonprofit, public-interest groups tackling peace and security concerns, exceptional people will be chosen. Candidates with a keen interest in these topics and a background in lobbying or activity for the public benefit are urged to apply.

Benefits of the Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship

Fellows will benefit from the program as follows:

• Scoville One of the program’s 26 participating organizations will get a fellow.
• With the assistance of alumni, board members, and staff, fellows will select a placement that most closely matches their interests and the requirements of the host organization.
• Participating businesses give fellows access to workspace and assistance, supervision, and direction for their work.
• Fellows may participate in a range of activities, except lobbying Congress, to further the objectives of their host group, including research, writing, and organizing.

Eligibility Criteria

All candidates should fulfill the following requirement:

• United States citizens living in or abroad are eligible to apply.
• Non-U.S. citizens may apply only if they live in the United States and have a work visa valid for the fellowship duration. Non-U.S. citizens residing in countries other than the United States are ineligible to apply.
• Applicants must have received a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
• Have a background and a strong interest in one or more of the fellowship’s approved policy issues.
• Outstanding academic achievements
• Excellent written and oral communication abilities
• Experience with public-interest activism or advocacy is strongly preferred.
• Considering a career in international peace and security with nonprofits, the federal government, academia, or the media.
• Individuals with no prior public interest or government experience in the Washington, DC area will be given preference.

• A policy/opinion essay (max. 750 words) Answering the question: What is the most emerging severe threat to international peace and security, and why is it so?
• Academic Transcripts (in a single pdf, records of each obtained degree)
• Two letters reference (word or pdf file)
