How can you make a difference?
A. Background:
The SUN Global Gathering is the Movement’s flagship event and one of the largest international gatherings within the nutrition community. It brings together all SUN Government Focal Points and representatives of their partners from civil society, donors, United Nations agencies, private sector, academia, media, parliamentarians and others.
It is an important moment where members take stock of progress and challenges, share their innovations and learn what is helping to reduce malnutrition across all SUN Countries, serving as an impactful platform for collaboration, learning, and mobilization in the fight against malnutrition in all its forms.
From November 25 to 28,2024, the government of Rwanda will host the SUN Global Gathering at Kigali Convention Center and it will be organized under the theme of “Nutrition: Power the Change”. With this slogan the Movement urges its members to embrace the power of nutrition to address several of the SDG’s.” It will bring together over 900 stakeholders including policymakers, advocates, and practitioners from 66 member countries, to seize opportunities presented by the political agenda, especially in the lead up to the Nutrition for Growth (N4G) summit where high level commitments are expected to be made. Also, it will serve as a critical pivot point, aligning nutrition action amongst the different stakeholder groups to advocate for one strong and powerful voice for nutrition.
In order to organize this international conference, the National Child Development Agency (NCDA) is seeking an experienced Coordinator to lead the planning and organization of the international conference on a part-time basis.
About NCDA:
NCDA as public institution of the Government of Rwanda entrusted with the overall coordination of interventions related to Early Childhood Development (ECD) services interventions, including nutrition and Hygiene.
B. Purpose of Activity/Assignment:
The purpose of this assignment is to plan and coordinate all activities related to the SUN Global Gathering locally in collaboration with NCDA and Global SUN secretariat.
C. Key Tasks:
The SUN Global Gathering Local Coordinator, with the assistance of NCDA and Global SUN Secretariat, will be responsible for the following activities.
- Develop an activity plan for the Local Organizing committee in coordination with the SMS Regional Representative and oversee that it is being carried out to plan.
- Help lead/support development Rwanda Examples that incorporate global, regional, and national best practices and up-to-date evidence in nutrition to advocate for nutrition action among decision-makers.

- Organize local scientific review committee for publication.
- Map out all interventions and documentation in line with the NCDA circulated template with partners.
- Support synthesis of the evidence collected and ensure design and publication in relevant formats including newsletters, posters, and articles.

- Map out the potential local partners and participants, draft invitation letters, ensure they are sent out, and make follow-ups to confirm the participation of the invited participants.
- Coordinate and organize monthly meetings with the organizer to follow up the preparation progress.
- Provide Media Relations for the conference in liaison with the SUN Movement Secretariat Communications team.
- Guide the SUN Global Gathering Task Team on Rwanda-specific processes and follow-up:

- High-level invitations (Rwanda emblem in comms)
- Security clearance for the overall participants list
- Engagement with the office of the Spokesman
- Protocols to follow.

- Support the LOC discussions on potential high-level session leaders and contributors to plenary and parallel sessions, conducting advocacy and outreach within members’ professional networks.
- Liaise with the Logistics Local Organizing Committee led by the Rwanda Convention Bureau and the local professional conference organizers (PCO).
- Build linkages between the GG and other critical events planned in Rwanda in 2024, including the UN Conference of Landlocked Developing Countries, African Finance Ministers meeting, AGRF, and others, helping to ensure that nutrition is included within those events as a part of the lead-up to the Global Gathering
- Support the LOC to conceptualize and organize events that highlight and celebrate the local context and culture of Rwanda.
D. Specific Deliverables:
- ToR and detailed activity plan for Local Organizing Committee (LOC) finalized.
- Partners interventions mapping tool completed.
- Best practices compiled, published, and showcased at the event.
- Local stakeholder’s and partners’ invitation letters sent.
- Media release & stories published.
- Final report available.
Duration and Location
The consultancy will be for 6 months from June to December 2024 and the consultant will be based in NCDA.
Selection Criteria
Applications shall be assessed based on their technical and financial proposals. Maximum scores for technical and financial applications will be 75% and 25%, respectively.
Successful candidates in technical evaluation will be requested to send their most competitive, all-inclusive financial proposals.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Public Health and/or Nutrition, and/or related Social Sciences.
- Having over eight years of experience in similar roles;
- Knowledge and experience in organizing and managing local/regional/global events
- Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda is required. Knowledge of French is an asset.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
