New America #ShareTheMicInCyber Fellows 2025 (Stipend available) Deadline: 30 September, 2024
Applications are open for the New America #ShareTheMicInCyber Fellows 2025. The #STMIC Fellowship at New America invests, grows, and platforms traditionally underrepresented communities in support of strengthening the nation’s resilience to digital threats.
This cornerstone program provides mid-career cybersecurity professionals from diverse backgrounds with an opportunity to conduct independent policy research and analysis, find solutions for critical cybersecurity issues, and explore questions of diversity and the human side of cybersecurity. The 2025 #ShareTheMicInCyber Fellows will serve for one calendar year (January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2025).

- They will also have opportunities to leverage New America and #ShareTheMicInCyber’s platforms to promote their work.
Eligibility
- Open to mid-career professionals, which are typically individuals who have at minimum 3 years of work experience.
- Successful applicants will have a track record of working independently, strong writing skills, and demonstrated interested in cybersecurity or issues related to cybersecurity (e.g. data privacy, emerging technology, or workforce training).
Expectations
The abstract of the project that you provide in your application must be achieved in a nine-month period (by the end of September 2025), with the remaining three months reserved for promotion and outreach. New America can provide support to aid in identifying organizations and individuals for outreach, but, as the issue expert, they trust that you will be able to identify the appropriate individuals to call upon as you develop your project.
Fellows must commit to the following::
- Attend the virtual all-day orientation in January 2025 and in-person closing event in October 2025.
- Conduct an independent project cumulating in a work product subject to approval by the Program Manager.
- Engage with the public on their research or a related topic prior to the publication of their work product in Fall 2025/Winter 2026.
- Represent New America in any public writing or speaking relating to their work with their fellowship.

- One resume or CV that is no more than 3 pages long;
- Two essay questions:
- A 1,000 word (or less) project proposal, and
- A 500-word personal statement of interest;
- One recommender’s name and email who will serve as a reference if you advance to the interview round; and
- Optional work samples, up to three (3).
