Job Description
IOM Project or IOM Department to which the interpreter is contributing: Medical Health Assessment Unit and Resettlement Movement Management.
- Tasks – Outputs – Category B Language Interpreter
- Conduct face to face and or virtual interpretations (consecutive interpretation) from from Tigrinya, Amharic, Somali, Arabic, saho and Dinka toEnglish and vice versa in the context of refugee under-going selection mission interviews, medical assessment and cultural orientation in accordance with confidentially, integrity, professionalism and with the respect to diversity.
- Support with the translation of refugee documents related to the selection, medical and cultural orientation activities.
- Respond to queries related to the area of responsibility.
- Discharge the responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with the core, functional, cross functional, high competence and professionalism.
- Maintain a high level of neutrality when performing interpretation work and avoid providing his/her personal inputs or ideas when delivering messages between the interviewer and the refugee applicant.
- Provide general clerical support to IOM staff, conduct telephonic communications if needed as a part of the routine follow up
- Provide ad hoc support for written translations as would be required.
- Provide general information and answers to basic queries on the resettlement procedures to the refugees as would be instructed by IOM.
- Contribute to reporting activities and statistics as would be requested
- Perform an any other related duties as required.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Science or any related field.
Experience
- Language skills English and Tigrinya, Amharic, Somali, Arabic, saho a Dinka to English and vice versa.

IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
- IOM does not charge a fee at any stage of its recruitment process (application, interview, processing, training or other fee). IOM does not request any information related to bank accounts.
