Johns Hopkins Healthcare Design Competition is organised to acknowledge unique projects in the field of healthcare. Students can choose one out of four tracks which include Designs of Solutions for Advanced Health Systems, Global Health/ Humanitarian Design, Healthcare Apps/ Digital Health, and Post-Surgical Infection Management. Participants have to submit Design Brief which will have executive summary of their design project. The winners of this online design contest will win cash prizes according to their positions.
Design Briefs of this international design competition will be evaluated on the basis of four elements. Applicants first have to briefly define the problem that they have identified, its healthcare background, and why does it need to be solved. They have to submit their suggested solution with the design rationale and how will it be helpful for all the healthcare stakeholders. Applicants have to explain their experimental results and images of design prototypes. In the end, they have to mention the possible pathway to implement the project that will create a helpful solution.
In this design competition for international students, submitted projects can propose products like medical devices, surgical tools, diagnostic devices, drug delivery devices, health IT solutions, or global health innovations. Students can get feedback from their mentors and experts to refine the final product before giving online presentation. After submitting the design project online, winners will have to pitch their product to online audience.

Eligibility Criteria for Johns Hopkins Healthcare Design Competition:
- Entries should be sent by a student-led team that has designed a health-related solution.
- Students from all countries can apply.
- Students from all academic fields can participate.
- The project must be related to a healthcare application in any of the 4 tracks.
- The starting date of project must be after 1st January, 2023.
- The project must be run by full-time students who are working on their undergraduate, masters, doctoral, and professional degrees.
- Postdoctoral research projects are not eligible to apply.
- Projects that have used a funding amount of >$100K can not apply.
- Projects run by startup companies or faculty members are ineligible to apply.
- Project teams must include more than one full-time student.
- Applicants can submit more than 1 project through separate online forms.
How to apply for Johns Hopkins Healthcare Design Competition:
- Apply through online application form.
- Enter your personal, academic and professional details.
- Upload PDF description of the project by following the instructions mentioned.
- The Design Brief should not be more than 2 pages excluding references.
- The document should have an Arial, Helvetica, Palatino Linotype, or Georgia typeface.
- Font should be in black color and size of 11 points or bigger.
- Type density of the document including characters and spaces, must not be more than 15 characters per inch.
- Type should not be more than six lines per inch.
- Standard paper size (8 ½” x 11) should be used.
- Minimum one-half inch margins (top, bottom, left, and right) for all pages should be used.
- Figures and images can be added but will be counted in the page limit.
- Read the terms and conditions and submit your application.
- After online submissions, winners will be announced on 10th March.
