2025 International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competitions: A Global Challenge for the Next Generation of Space Scientists: (Deadline 4 July, 2025)

The stars are aligning once again for one of the world’s most exciting academic competition: the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Competition (IAAC) 2025. This global event invites high school and university students to explore the mysteries of the cosmos through rigorous problem-solving and a passion for discovery. With telescopes signed by Nobel Prize winners and a rich set of prizes on offer, IAAC 2025 is more than just a competition—it’s a journey into the heart of science.

A Stellar Opportunity for Young Minds

Designed for students across the globe, IAAC aims to inspire and challenge participants through thought-provoking astronomy and astrophysics problems. Whether you’re fascinated by black holes, passionate about planetary systems, or intrigued by cosmic phenomena, the competition provides an ideal platform to test your knowledge and sharpen your scientific thinking.

The competition is open to all high school and university students, welcoming curious minds from every corner of the world. The first round deadline is Friday, 04 July 2025, giving participants ample time to dive into the cosmos.

How It Works: The Three Rounds of IAAC 2025

1. Qualification Round (Open until 4 July 2025)
Participants solve five astronomy problems from home. These tasks cover a wide range of topics and difficulty levels. Early submission is encouraged to avoid last-minute stress.

2. Pre-Final Round
Selected students will face six more complex and research-based problems over four days. These challenges often include scientific papers and real-world scenarios, offering a glimpse into the work of professional astrophysicists.

3. Final Round
A supervised online exam with twenty questions will be held simultaneously around the globe. Finalists compete for top honors and prizes based on their comprehensive understanding of astronomy.

Local Groups and the Ambassador Program

The IAAC reaches beyond individual participants with a vibrant Ambassador Network. Local student groups are springing up in cities and schools around the world, led by IAAC Ambassadors—motivated individuals who organize workshops, stargazing nights, and study sessions.

Becoming an Ambassador offers students aged 14+ the chance to represent IAAC in their communities, gain leadership experience, and build local astronomy clubs. Ambassadors receive exclusive perks such as:

  • A personal IAAC email address and webpage
  • Recognition on IAAC platforms
  • Priority consideration for financial support
  • Access to special Ambassador Awards

Interested students must submit a letter of motivation, a CV, and complete two selection stages, including a video and custom astronomy problems.
