INTRODUCTION
GGGI in partnership with the Government of Rwanda and supported by the NDC Partnership and Environment and Climate Change Canada, is developing a Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Index and Simulation Tool for Rwanda’s NDC 3.0. Building on Rwanda’s Climate Change Gender Action Plan (ccGAP) and other relevant GESI policies and strategies, the tool aims to strengthen gender equality and social inclusion in climate action. Modelled after GGGI’s Green Growth Index, the tool will enable policymakers to track and assess gender-responsive and inclusive measures within the NDCs.
Developed through a participatory process involving CSOs and local government forums representing women, youth, and vulnerable groups, the tool emphasizes gender-responsive budgeting, analysis, and inclusive indicators to support more equitable climate planning and implementation.
CURRENT OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a talented individual to work with us in the Rwanda Country Program to provide valuable analytical skills and techniques in developing, measuring and validating GESI indicators.
The intern will work closely with the project team under the supervision of the Project Manager and will be engaged in carrying out the following tasks but not limited to:
- Support the team with carrying out the GESI baseline assessments, elaboration and validation of GESI relevant indicators.
- Conduct literature reviews and background research on relevant thematic areas.
- Support with the background baseline data verification as part of the design and application of the GESI Index and Simulation Tool.
- Conduct literature reviews and background research on relevant topics.
- Support preparation of reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations.
- Contribute to the organization of consultation and capacity-building workshops, including preparation of training materials, logistical coordination, and workshop report writing. Support the evaluation of training effectiveness and stakeholder engagement impact.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the project communication plan including dissemination of knowledge products and progress updates to relevant institutions and stakeholders.
- Provide administrative and technical support for general project implementation, including information gathering and documentation.
- Support in project design, planning, as well as regular review, monitoring and reporting.
- Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor in alignment with the project’s objectives.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for the GGGI Internship Program, applicants must meet the following criteria at the time of application:
- Be currently enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree or in a Master’s/PhD program, or be a recent graduate (within the past 12 months).
- Be engaged or have recently been engaged in academic studies in a field relevant to GGGI’s work.
- Demonstrate excellent written and spoken English proficiency.
QUALIFICATION
- Enrolled/Recently graduated in a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD program in Social Sciences, International Development, Statistics, Data Analytics, Monitoring & Evaluation or a closely related field. Theoretical knowledge and practical experience in research methodologies and data analysis is crucial. Additional knowledge or coursework in Gender Equality and Social Inclusion is a strong advantage.
- Demonstrated interest in sustainability, green growth, or gender-responsive development.
- Outstanding research and analytical skills, including strong ability to analyze, integrate and summarize information from a wide range of sources. Experience in research and report writing related to GESI, sustainable development, green growth.
- Prior experience in drafting research papers or reports related to GESI or sustainable development.
- Strong understanding of statistical methods and data interpretation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven computer literacy in office software applications, as well as willingness to learn new tools.
- Ability to work/deliver under time pressure and ensure high-quality deliverables within the allocated timeframe.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment and time zones.
- Excellent English communication skills, particularly writing and/or editing experience in the field of sustainable development.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports and presentations.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
SELECTION PROCESS

- GGGI evaluates applications based on eligibility requirements, relevance of academic study and work experience (if any); and the level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Duration: The internship program is for at least three months and up to six months. Once selected, interns must begin your internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation.
Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD $500 per month (unless agreed to be funded by sponsoring institutions). All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns themselves or sponsoring institutions.
Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.
Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.
Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.
Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.
Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.
Working Hours: Interns are expected to work during normal working hours. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.
Learning Outcomes: Before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.
Certificate: Provided upon successful completion of the internship, upon request.
