JOB AT Peace-Building Institute (PBI) : Peace Building Team : ( Deadline : 10 May 2019 )

Background and Rationale

Rwanda’s recovery processes from the horrors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994 need to be studied discussed and analyzed for sustainable peace and development. Stories of what, how, when and why it happened and aftermath consequences, as well as strategies of coping with it, need to be reviewed and revisited by youth if peace is to be durable for they are the principal instruments of social change. It is from this context that Never Again Rwanda (NAR) established the Peace-Building Institute (PBI).

The Peace-Building Institute (PBI) is one of the most expansive projects within the Peace Building Program. It is a biannual program that brings together Rwandan, regional and international university students as well as young professionals to study and examine the reconstruction efforts in post-genocide Rwanda and use the lessons learned to shape the world towards sustainable peace.

The International PBI attracts Rwandan and international participants, whereas the regional PBI is a wider platform bringing together participants from the region and across Africa. The scope of this Institute stretches to analyze genocide as a subject, its causes, history, and legacy, as well as realities that characterize post-genocide societies.

The Peace-Building Institute aims at empowering young people with skills to prevent and overcome violence and negative ethnicity. Additionally, the Institute places particular emphasis on creating awareness about the history and consequences of genocide and extreme violence. Within a period of two weeks, applicants are engaged in readings, shared set of texts, site visits, lectures and group discussions. Through these sessions, they learn skills in cross-cultural dialogue, critical thinking, analysis of complex issues and problem-solving. All of which is guided by the Institute’s theme; “creating a network of global peace ambassadors.”
