Umuhuza background

 

Umuhuza is a Non-Governmental Organization founded in 2005 and recognized by the Rwanda Governance board in the official gazette no 50 bis with legal personality no 104/2014. Umuhuza aims to foster a culture of peace through education focusing on educating parents of young children to promote improved childhood development and create peaceful citizens.

From 2013 Umuhuza has been successfully implementing Literacy Boost projects in various Districts of Rwanda and due to project expansion, Umuhuza is now hiring skilled and demonstrated Project Officers for its project in Literacy Boost to be based in specific Districts.

 

ROLE PURPOSE:

 

Umuhuza is seeking for Project officers

The Literacy Boost Project Officer is responsible for the efficient and effective implementation of the Literacy Boost Program activities at selected districts. The job holder will work closely with relevant district officers and key partners to ensure that the Literacy Boost Project is integrated in district plans.

 

SCOPE OF ROLE:

 

Reporting to: Literacy Boost Coordinator

Location: District TBC with frequent travel to Kigali

Duration: 1 year renewable

Reports to: The Project Coordinator with a dotted line to the Finance and Administration Manager

Expected date of start: As soon as possible

 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

 

Mainstream the Literacy Boost project within district education priorities, ensuring that it is well captured in District / Sector performance contracts;
Sensitization and collaboration of key stakeholders (District, Sector education officers, parents) on the Literacy Boost project;
Participate in District and Sector education meetings representing Umuhuza;
Promote positive reading behaviors by children in reading clubs at the target communities.
Facilitate the regular process of assessment of the project at all district level;
Inform early to the Project Coordinator any potential constraint to the implementation of the project including any new actor engaged in literacy boost in the district
Set up of accountability and complaints handling mechanisms, under the guidance of Umuhuza policies and procedures;
Ensuring parents’ training activities are carried out as per the project detailed implementation plan;
Facilitate Literacy Boost parent’s awareness sessions to strengthen reading clubs;
Provision of ongoing advises and support to Parents and practitioners in the implementation of the learning from the training sessions;
Identify and document of key lessons learned from the project, including success stories;
Supervise the monitoring component of the project against agreed project targets and indicators;
In addition, any other task are reasonably assigned by the hierarchical supervision shall be carried out for the successful functioning of the organization.

 

Child Safeguarding

 

Understand the provisions of the Child Safeguarding Policy, Code of Conduct and Local/Country Procedures and conduct oneself in accordance with the rules of the Child Safeguarding Policy, in personal and professional lives – which includes reporting suspicions of child abuse.
Ensure that all project activities carried out are considered in relation to prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse and handling of serious complaints in line with the child safeguarding policy.
Promote the message of child safeguarding to colleagues in other organizations and government ministries, children in their own and beneficiary families, and community members in general and be vigilant about observing possible child abuse/harm in their personal and professional lives.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

Education: Bachelor Degree in Education, Social Sciences or related studies

 

Skills and Experience:

 

At least 2 years of experience in Literacy Boost programs.
Prior experience with supporting community participatory based reading programs and experience with the development of early grade reading materials, training programs, classroom monitoring protocols, tests and assessments would be an added value.
Excellent in oral and written English and Kinyarwanda.
Good facilitation skills, report writing skills, good interpersonal relationships, and experience in community-based participatory.
Computer skills particularly in MS office

Umuhuza background

From January 2016, the organization is expanded to work with Save the Children International (SCI) on School-Community Partnerships Education(SCOPE) project funded by USAID. It is in light of this expansion that the organization requires a skilled and committed person to cover the Finance and Administrative Assistant position.

 

ROLE PURPOSE:

 

Umuhuza is seeking Finance and Administrative Assistant (1)

 

The Finance and administrative assistant will be responsible for maintaining SCOPE Finance and administrative, logistics and basic accounting, ensuring that all guidelines, procedures, and routines of UMUHUZA in the areas of administration, accounting and logistics are followed so as to provide effective support for all of the SCOPE’s program activities.

 

SCOPE OF ROLE:

 

Reports to: The Project Coordinator with a dotted line to the Finance and Administration Manager

 

Expected date of start: As soon as possible

 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: Office administration

 

Ensure that payment of regular services approved by authorities are completed in a timely manner in accordance with Umuhuza financial manual;
Assist in SCOPE meetings, workshops, and other events;
Ensure that all program and administrative documents filed appropriately.

HR support

 

Assist in preparing SCOPE’s part-time staff’s( Trainers of Literacy Champions) agreement
Record and update all SCOPE team’s leave and absence;
Collect and submit a monthly timesheet for SCOPE team from SCI office to Umuhuza office

Logistics support

 

Seek competitive suppliers of goods and services as required, ensure that procurement procedures are adhered to for SCOPE Activities;
Assist in purchasing of office equipment, materials and canteen necessities for SCOPE;
Ensure that the organization’s asset and equipment are accounted for and operational;
Ensure availability of all material needed for SCOPE activities.

Finance support

 

Ensure all monthly business advance are timely settled and any supplier’s invoice are timely submitted to the Finance assistant for payment
Prepare SCOPE request ( monthly, quarterly and annually)
Follow up on supplier’s payment to ensure they are paid on a timely manner
In addition, any other task is reasonably assigned by the hierarchical supervision shall be carried out for the successful functioning of the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

Bachelors degree relevant to the job description preferably in Accounting / Finance Graduate
Relevant proven working experience
On-hand proven experience with QuickBooks is an asset
Solid computer literacy (MS Office, Email correspondence, etc…)
Familiarity with financial reporting and forecasts.
Ability to hand alternative duties at the same time
