Job Description
1. Being responsible for accurate and quick performance of Destructive tests analytical work assigned
– Undertaking Laboratory tests and reporting all laboratory activities to direct supervisor
– Where possible, conducting quality controls tests/verifications before testing for ensuring and monitoring the quality of laboratory test results
– Maintaining laboratory generated records and keep up to date all laboratory documents
– Identifying all sources of uncertainties of measurements
– Proper handling and good housekeeping of test items
– Proper management of waste generated in Destructive tests laboratory
2. Taking care of Destructive tests Laboratory equipment
– Maintaining laboratory equipment files according to NQTLD management System
– Maintaining the assigned equipment using the manufacturer’s instruction or the applicable work instruction
– Establishing a maintenance and calibration plan and request for its implementation
– Develop safety working instructions of Destructive tests laboratory equipments
3. Assuring quality of test results in Destructive tests Laboratory
– Ensuring quality of test result before issuing the test report
– Participate in quality control programs and prepare statistical reports
– Identifying source of uncertainties of measurements and estimating uncertainty budget
– Implementing and participating in review of the laboratory quality system
– Documentation of laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
4. Procurement planning and acceptance of supplies of Destructive tests Laboratory
– Give recommendation on equipment, chemicals reagents and spare parts required in Destructive tests laboratory including designing of simple modifications and fixtures to facilitate performance of tests
– Preparation of proposal of technical specifications of Destructive tests laboratory testing equipment spares parts and laboratory consumables for purchase
– Participation in evaluation of new equipments of Destructive tests laboratory after commissioning
5. Providing expertise in materials engineering field
– Participating in the relevant technical committees in standards development as a resource person
– Training of students on attachment in Destructive tests Laboratory and ensuring their supervision at all times
– Providing expertise for matters pertaining to materials engineering if requested by Rwanda Standards Board.

1. Being responsible for accurate and quick performance of analytical work assigned
– Receiving and ensuring proper storage of test samples, chemicals, materials and reagents
– Prepare and standardize solutions, materials and reagents used in laboratory analysis
