Background and Purpose

Gahini Rehabilitation Center (GRC) is a Rwandan Local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) started in 1969 and got registered as a faith-based organization on 20th Jan. 2020, whose mission is to offer comprehensive rehabilitation services to Persons with Disabilities by creating an enabling environment in such a way that persons with disabilities can realize their full potential.

Gahini Rehabilitation Center (GRC) is located in Kayonza District and offers comprehensive rehabilitation services including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, orthopedic surgery, orthopedic appliances (prosthesis & orthesis), Community Based Rehabilitation program and outreach activities to assist persons with disabilities at the center level and in the community. The Ministry of Health in partnership with CBM is supporting GRC to become a national referral center of excellence for rehabilitation services.

With this background, we are looking for passionate, qualified and experienced Rwandese candidates to fulfill the following three vacant positions. The incumbents will be employees of the Gahini Rehabilitation Center (GRC) with a contract of one (1) year renewable depending on work performance and funds availability.

Position 3:  HUMAN RESOURCES & ADMINISTRATION OFFICER (1)

Reports to: GRC Director

Location: Gahini Rehabilitation Center (GRC), Kayonza District

JOB SUMMARY:

To provide day-to-day administrative support in the implementation of human resource policies, procedures, and ensure smooth office operations in GRC. The main HR & administrative duties include maintaining personnel records, managing HR documents (e.g. employment records and onboarding guides) and updating internal databases. Ultimately, you should be able to ensure the GRC HR unit supports our employees while conforming to Rwanda’s labor laws.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE HUMAN RESOURCES & ADMINISTRATION OFFICER:

HUMAN RESOURCES

  1. To oversee all HR tasks in the office compliance with GRC established policies and procedures, Rwanda’s labor law and other related matters.
  2. To revise the GRC Procedures and policies Manual
  3. Maintain updated and well-organized staff files.
  4. Maintain and keep on track staff work contracts, job descriptions, KPOs, performance appraisals and annual leaves.
  5. Provide advice to the GRC Director on HR matters.
  6. Ensure staff salaries, PAYE (TPR), pension, CBHI Scheme and medical insurance are paid in time.
  7. Minute taking for staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  8. To answer GRC employees queries about HR-related issues

ADMINISTRATION

  1. Manage and supervise administrative functions and support staff.
  2. Responsible for the procurement of office supplies and services and provides administrative support for the maintenance of the telephone, communication, Vehicle management, and computing system.
  3. Ensure a proper workplace environment.
  4. Coordinate and provide administrative support for quarterly GRC Board of Directors meetings.
  5. To provide administrative support for the GRC Director such as meeting scheduling and travel arrangements.
  6. Minute taking for staff meetings and other meetings as required.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • University Degree in Human Resources or Administration.
  • 3-5 years of working experience in a similar capacity
  • Thorough understanding of Rwanda labor and employment laws.
  • Good computer skills in spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Good organization and interpersonal skills with the ability to function in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Fluent spoken and written English and Kinyarwanda
  • Flexible, resourceful and able to perform despite tight schedules.
  • A high-level individual who is independent, proactive, with a good attitude and mindset.
  • Must take initiative to complete the task assigned.
  • Has a strong stakeholder focus and service-oriented attitude.

Position 2:  GRC HOSTEL NURSE (1)

Reports to: HoD, Social Work Department

Location: Gahini Rehabilitation Center (GRC), Kayonza District

JOB SUMMARY:

The primary objective of GRC Hostel Nursing is to ensure 24/7 safety and healthy physical well-being of clients and caretakers while staying at the GRC Hostel.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE GRC HOSTEL NURSE:

  1. Ensure the day and night supervision of Hostel residents and the smooth running of the Hostel.
  2. To actively guide clients and their families on the function and mutual responsibilities while staying at the GRC Hostel. Ensure appropriate and fair division/delegation of responsibilities including adherence to timetables and cleanliness of the Hostel.
  3. To share information with the client and family about the health condition and disabilities. Teaches wound care and nursing techniques to help clients and their families develop the required self-care skills.
  4. To assess and plan nursing care requirements and manage the care of patients, assist with transferring, monitor vital signs, administer any additional needed medications and schedule needed treatments.
  5. To reinforce the teaching done by Therapists in GRC in consultation with the social work department,
  6. To provide pre- and post-operation wound and health care and communicate with doctors completing rounds, educate family members on patient status, monitor patients for any signs or symptoms.
  7. , Evaluate the nursing care that is being provided and modifies the plan in communication with GRC therapists and doctors, to achieve measurable goals and objectives.
  8. To collaborate with social work department team members to achieve cost-effective care by utilizing appropriate clinical measures to meet emergent physical, psychosocial, and spiritual situations

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Medical Nurse from a recognized university with full registration and current practicing license with a relevant professional body (Rwanda Nurse Council)
  • A minimum of 2 years of clinical working experience in Rwanda health system
  • High Standards of Professionalism in their approach towards their work
  • Must have strong cross-cultural and interpersonal skills to work with children and adults at risk, and comprehend safeguarding, and disability inclusion matters.
  • Experience in a rural health center/ hospital setting
  • Caring and compassionate nature.
  • Oral/writing skills in Kinyarwanda and English; knowledge of French is preferred.
  • Excellent teamwork and people skills
  • Ability to use initiative.
  • Ability to deal with emotionally charged and pressured situations.

 Position 1: Physiotherapists (2)

Reports to: HoD, Physiotherapy Department

Location: Gahini Rehabilitation Center (GRC), Kayonza District

JOB SUMMARY:

Physiotherapists working in GRC treat patients, especially children, who are suffering from physical restraints and disabilities as a result of illness, injury, aging, congenital factors or other factors. They will work with patients to identify what is causing problems for them and create treatment and rehabilitation plans to help the patient gain back their strength and mobility. The physiotherapists provide patients with functional rehabilitative therapy using GRC physiotherapy equipment where applicable.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PHYSIOTHERAPISTS:

  1. To restore GRC patient’s function, to alleviate pain, and to prevent disabilities by planning and administering prescribed physical therapy.
  2. To provide quality care by assessing and interpreting test results and determine physical therapy treatment plans in consultation with GRC physicians or by prescription.
  3. In consultation with the Orthopaedic workshop technologists, recommend, prescribe and assist in the use of assistive (mobility) devices in order to obtain full functionality.
  4. To educate GRC patients and their families about the recovery process and the challenges they will face
  5. To assist and demonstrate appropriate functional home exercises and equipment use.
  6. To collaborate with GRC patient doctors for referrals, client notes, and medical history
  7. To review and evaluate patients through tests, movements, and conversation
  8. To discuss a patient’s follow-up plans with physicians, surgeons, and healthcare team
  9. To manage hardware requirements and products necessary for its activity;
  10. To participate in meetings and other activities of the GRC.

 EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • A physiotherapy degree approved by the Ministry of Education of Rwanda
  • Professional registration as a chartered physiotherapist.
  • Knowledge in physiotherapy techniques and management of physio equipment and products
  • Proven work experience in pediatric and adult physiotherapy.
  • The ability to build rapport with patients from a variety of backgrounds and communicate with their relatives and carers.
  • Commitment to the goals and values of GRC
  • Ability to manage patients with different types of personalities
  • Must have cross-cultural experience and strong interpersonal skills to work with such children, adults at risk, safeguarding and disability inclusion.
  • Excellent Oral/writing skills in Kinyarwanda and English; knowledge of French is preferred.
  • Experience and willingness to work in a rural health center/ hospital setting
  • Tolerance and patience and Collaborate with GRC departments.
