European Cross-Border Grant Program 2020: (Deadline 15 July 2020)

Details

Applications call for European Cross-Border Grant Program 2020.

This awarded European Cross-Border Grant program (running since 2009) will support professional journalists, who have good ideas for cross-border investigations and for research on European affairs. The stories must be relevant to European target groups. The project should be one that, in principle, could not be realized in this format within the remit of regular journalism – a project that can include cross-border research, networking between colleagues, established and innovative investigative methods and that is at the same time original, innovative and intensive.

Journalismfund.eu supports costs related to journalistic research for all media. This can include travel, translation, access to pay-databases or simply time to research. The program do not support fixed costs such as office costs, investments such as cameras or computers, or production costs.

Benefits

In 2020, there is €180,000 to distribute over three application rounds. The money comes from the Adessium Foundation and Open Society Foundations.

Who can apply?

The European Cross-border Grants Program is open to teams of journalists from at least two European countries who have good ideas for cross-border investigation and for research on European affairs. Journalismfund.eu supports journalists living in a Council of Europe country (geographical Europe). When relevant for the story, team members from elsewhere can be accepted, too.

For the European Cross-border grants, Journalismfund.eu receives funding from the Open Society Foundations and the Addesium foundation. The two foundations have structurally funded the program since 2009. Journalists living in Council of Europe member states are eligible to apply. This means that this grant is inclusive for all Europeans and not just those who live in the European Union.

Application Materials

  • Personal details of all the team members, including the individual bank account numbers and coordinates.
  • Indication of the intended medium.
  • Description of the project, both content, and method.
  • Explanation of why the applicant is appealing to Journalismfund.eu.
