Terms of Reference for Recruiting an Agronomy Specialist
Introduction
Nasho Irrigation Cooperative (NAICO) is a legally registered cooperative with registration number Nr: RCA?0409/2019, located in Nasho sector, Kirehe district. It was formed to bring together about 2,000 smallholder farmers within Nasho irrigation project site. The objective of NAICO is to support members within the cooperative to increase productivity and yield through proper utilization of modern irrigation infrastructure and efficient use of inputs such as water and fertilizers on an area of 1,173 hectares, and to improve livelihoods of small-scale farmers in the Nasho valley. Nasho irrigation scheme is marked by growing various crops including mainly cereals, legumes, and vegetables as well as seed production. NAICO, in the line of supporting farmers to properly adopt modern agriculture practices and to achieve its objectives, is willing to recruit one staff on the post of “Agronomy specialist.” The agronomy specialist will be full-time based, working in the agronomy department and report directly to the cooperative manager.
Job Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities and duties include but not limited to:
- Assist farmers with good agronomic practices focusing mainly on efficient and proper use of fertilizers, water, crop rotation and use of improved seed.
- Prepare irrigation schedule according to soil type.
- Preparing monthly, quarterly, annual agricultural activities report.
- Perform any other task assigned by his supervisors.
Qualifications and Requirements
The necessary qualifications, skills, and experience for the agronomy specialist position includes:
- A bachelor’s degree in agronomy, crop production, crop sciences or any other related field
- Proven experience of at least 3 years in the field of agriculture
- Having excellent skills of computer programs especially Microsoft word, excel and power point.
- Be able to work under pressure and under minimum supervision.
- Be fluent in Kinyarwanda and English, knowledge of French is an added value.
- Having a driving licence, category A, B and F is an added value.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
