Mission and objectives

Within the framework of Delivering as One UN in Rwanda, UNDP works closely with the Government, as well as with development partners and civil society, and all other UN agencies operating in the country to build institutional capacity and effect sustainable development. UNDP Rwanda support the Government of Rwanda effort to achieve the agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development (SDGs) through technical support that includes developing human and institutional capacities, demonstrating solutions, building partnerships, and raising funds for development. UNDP programme and activities respond to challenges facing the country achieve its short- and long-term development goals. UNDP also undertakes rigorous social and environmental screening of all projects. This process includes screening for gender parameters to ensure the full integration of gender sensitive approaches and results at every phase of programming. The objective is to guarantee that women as well as men in Rwanda benefit in equitable, concrete, and tangible ways from the programmes UNDP supports. UNDP also encourages and provides technical assistance to the National Implementing Partners to adopt Gender Responsive Planning and Budgeting.

Context

Over the years, the Communications unit considerably supported to boost the country office’s visibility and increased outreach to various partners. The unit carries out various activities to effectively tell the stories of the results on the ground. This include but not limited to article and success stories writing covering events and field visits related to UNDP activities. It is in this respect that the UNDP Rwanda is seeking a National UN Volunteer to serve as the Audio- Visual Communications Officer to manage the audio-visual and creative communications related work as well social media. Under the guidance and supervision of the Communications Analyst, the Audio-visual Communications officer will support in ensuring smooth delivery of Cos Communications Strategy ensuring high quality, accurate and consistent of work.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Communications Analyst, the national UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Assist in the development and implementation of the overall UNDP Country Office Communications Strategy, with particular focus on the digital communication, designs of advocacy materials, among which are: preparing the design of documents, newsletters, brochures, flyers, invitations, posters, Creative infographics that reflect UNDP results. • Plan with program units to identify which projects and results to highlight produce creative advocacy designs • Support and lead the design process of reports and presentations for printing, electronic distribution, and live delivery. • Design invitation for events with images and other related materials. • Deliver creative and innovative ideas for print, web, and interactive presentations. • Deliver creative graphic and technical solutions for use of new media; layout and design of power-point presentations as needed. • Assist with design of social media assets daily. • Draft write- ups to be published on the website, newsletter, brochures, flyers • Assist in developing materials such as Press Releases, media advisories, etc. • Input into the development of donor communication materials. • The videographer/photographer will work with all units and partners to develop the various products within stipulated budgets and within set deadlines. • Ensure photo and video coverage of all UNDP events and field activities and shoot video footages. • Assist in establishing and be responsible for maintaining a photo and video archive • Deliver High quality footage for broadcast or non-broadcast production • Deliver High-quality photos that can be re-produced in print, multi-media and online formats. • Prepare photos and videos for social media use. Produce materials for websites and TV including short documentaries, interviews, animation, coverage, etc. • Conduct thematic interviews with partners, beneficiaries and other stakeholders linked to the project. • Handle the continuous restructuring of the website to ensure it answers to the changing needs of UNDP’s audiences • Undertake various other communication-related tasks for the Country Office as required, including administration of communication activities

27 – 80

Nationality

Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.

Requirements

Required experience

3 years of experience in • Proven experience in daily management of websites, and social media, preferably with a multilateral or international development organizations • Digital Communications, Journalism or area related to Software and web designs • Experience in Web Management and/or social media, will be an added advantage • Experience with development work will be an advantage, but not a requirement. • Conversant with Content Management Systems, Joomla, CQ5 and the use of Windows computer applications • Excellent command of English, both orally and in writing • Outstanding drafting skills and creative story writer • Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines
