Mission and objectives

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. Volunteerism is a powerful means of engaging people in tackling development challenges, and it can transform the pace and nature of development. Volunteerism benefits both societies at large and the individual vol-unteer by strengthening trust, solidarity, and reciprocity among citizens, and by purposefully creating opportunities for participation. UNV contributes to peace and development by ad-vocating for recognition of volunteers, working with partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing an increasing number and diversity of volun-teers, including experienced UNV volunteers, throughout the world. UNV embraces volun-teerism as universal and inclusive, and recognizes volunteerism in its diversity, as well as the values that sustain it: free will, commitment, engagement, and solidarity. Under the UNV East and Southern Africa Regional Office (Nairobi, Kenya), the UNV Field Unit Rwanda is the first entry point for partners wishing to engage with UNV at country level. It offers UNV services and solutions to government partners, UN entities, civil society, and the private sec-tor. It conducts scoping and delivers UNV advisory services on volunteer promotion initia-tives. The Field Unit mobilizes, oversees, and facilitates the work of a growing number of national and international UN volunteers in the country in collaboration with host agencies and beneficiary communities

Context

The 54 Faces of Africa Campaign is a collaborative initiative by the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) aimed at amplifying the voices of African youth. The campaign seeks to highlight the stories, aspirations, challenges, and innovations of young Africans from all 54 countries, focusing on key themes such as Climate Change, Food and Agricultural Productivity, Education, Digital Innovation, Peace and Security, Entrepreneurship, Health and Wellbeing, Sports, Creatives and Culture. The goal is to foster positive narratives about Africa’s future and engage youth as active agents of change in their communities and on the global stage. The 54 Faces of Africa campaign plays a pivotal role in changing global perceptions of Africa by telling the authentic stories of African youth who are making a difference in their communities. To ensure the campaign reaches a broad, diverse, and global audience, we are mobilizing 400 online volunteers to contribute to a largescale awareness creation effort. Volunteers will work together to amplify the campaign’s message across digital platforms, engage key stakeholders, and foster greater visibility for the incredible stories being told through this initiative.
