About Western Seed Company:

Western Seed Company LTD, is Kenyan resident company located in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County in Kenya. The Company was registered in 1986 and started operations in 1997.

WSC has grown from a small sized company to a medium sized company catering to the needs of 300,000 smallholder subsistence farmers in Kenya and 200,000 farmers in Rwanda. This work is targeted towards helping local farmers face Agricultural challenges prevalent in the regions by offering improved maize seed.

The Company is the only private local company with maize research and conventional breeding program to improve crop varieties. The Company a Technology provider carries out research and testing in various agro-ecological zones, produces and maintains parent seed lines. It has breeders, Scientists and technical staff dedicated to improving Seed quality and yield and constantly producing new products. The Research and Development (R&D) Team started in 1993 and remains a vital component of the Company.

WSC is a farming and Agro processing Company with a well –established plant breeding, Seed multiplication, processing and marketing departments. It breeds and develops maize seed varieties that are suitable for the diverse ecologies and eco systems which bring maximum livelihood benefits to small Scale farmers of Africa. WSC has branches in Rwanda, Tanzania and subsidiary in Zambia. WSC has granted its subsidiary in Zambia and branches the right produce (multiply)and distribute WSC varieties (Maize and seed of other crops) in their respective markets. The subsidiary (WSC-ZM) enjoys all the rights with additional right to perform plant breeding and Development.

WSC is looking forward to having operations in other African countries in Future with an objective of supplying seed within African Region.

WSC is therefore looking for dedicated and professional 5 Staff who will work with the marketing Department in the following Districts: Gakenke, Rubavu, Gatsibo, Bugesera and Rusizi.

Field Marketing Staff Terms of Reference.

Introduction: The following document outlines the terms of reference for field staff engaged in marketing operations at Western Seed Company LTD. These terms aim to provide clarity on roles, responsibilities, and expectations to ensure efficient and effective marketing activities.

Position Title: Field Marketing Staff

Objective: The primary objective of field marketing staff is to promote and sell the products of Western Seed Varieties to targeted customers within designated regions. This includes generating leads, building relationships with farmers, and maximizing sales revenue.

Responsibilities:

  1. Promote Western Seed Company’s products to potential customers, including farmers, agricultural cooperatives, and retailers.
  2. Conduct market research to identify potential customers, competitors, and market trends.
  3. Develop and implement marketing strategies to increase brand awareness and sales.
  4. Organize and participate in promotional events such as farmer field days, agricultural fairs, and demonstrations.
  5. Provide product training and technical support to customers as needed.
  6. Collaborate with the sales team to achieve sales targets and objectives.
  7. Collect and report market feedback, including customer preferences and competitor activities, to the marketing and product development teams.
  8. Maintain accurate records of sales activities, expenses, and customer interactions.
  9. Represent Western Seed Company in a professional manner at all times.
  10. Register Farmer orders in MOPA.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, marketing, or related field preferred.
  2. Proven experience in agricultural marketing or sales roles.
  3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Knowledge of agricultural practices and crop production techniques.
  5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  6. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively within the designated region.

Reporting: Field marketing staff will report directly to the Sales, Marketing and Distribution Lead or designated supervisor. Regular updates on activities, sales performance, and market insights should be provided as requested.

Performance Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated based on sales targets achievement, market penetration, customer satisfaction, and adherence to company policies and procedures.

Compensation: Compensation for field marketing staff will be based on a combination of salary and performance-based incentives. Details of compensation will be provided separately.

Confidentiality: Field marketing staff are expected to maintain the confidentiality of company information, including customer data, pricing strategies, and product development plans.

Compliance: Field marketing staff must adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies, including health and safety protocols, during the course of their duties.

Amendments: These terms of reference are subject to review and amendment as necessary. Any changes will be communicated to field marketing staff in a timely manner.
