Organization Overview

Research Triangle Institute (RTI) has over 30 years’ experience assisting governments, communities, and the private sector. RTI’s Sustainable Growth & Resilience (SG&R) technical unit within the International Development Group (IDG) brings together RTI experts and capabilities across food security, agriculture, energy, environment, water, governance, and economic opportunity. SG&R will leverage RTI’s experience designing and delivering multisectoral programming and technical solutions to respond to climate change, build resilience, and promote economic growth around the world. Within SG&R, the Global Food Security and Agriculture team is working to strengthen agricultural markets, engage youth and women as critical leaders of the on- and off-farm workforce, and tackle the dual burden of malnutrition around the globe.

Project Description

The purpose of the recently-awarded $17.4M Feed the Future Rwanda Kungahara Uhanga Akazi (KUA) Activity is to address the problem of insufficient employment opportunities and limited entrepreneurial success for Rwandans. KUA will facilitate capacity development for Rwandans – particularly women, youth, and persons with disabilities – in key technical and soft skills required to participate in a modern workforce and will catalyze new entry and growth of inclusive enterprises. The program will be based in Rwanda.

Position Description

RTI is hiring a Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Coordinator on the Feed the Future Rwanda Kungahara Uhanga Akazi (KUA) Activity. The GESI Coordinator is responsible for supporting project interventions at the macro and micro levels that incentivize businesses to grow inclusively. This position will be based in Kigali, Rwanda, and will report to the Social Inclusion Manager.

Responsibilities of the GESI Coordinator include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the design and integration of GESI activities and tools in the work plan.
  • Support the Social Inclusion Manager to design and implement the project’s GESI strategy, including the development and adaptation of tools and approaches to support the strategy.
  • Support and collaborate with the technical team on integrating GESI in technical assistance, grants, capacity development, and pilot projects.
  • Work closely with the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) team to ensure that gender issues are reflected in the M&E plan, framework, and reports to assess whether GESI objectives are being met.
  • Build capacity of project staff to integrate inclusive approaches and consider social and economic impacts of project activities on women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
  • Build capacity of partner organizations to use GESI methodologies and provide training and tools to partner organizations to mainstream these methodologies in their policies, management systems, and programs.
  • Disseminate best practices and lessons learned related GESI with project staff and partner organizations.
  • Raise awareness of inclusion success stories within the Activity’s partnerships at a societal level to further the business and social case for inclusion.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with social inclusion stakeholders, including the government, the private sector, and civil society.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and 1 year of experience, or bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience
  • Ability to conceptualize, plan, guide, and implement work with demonstrated experience in mainstreaming GESI.
  • Demonstrated team player with effective cross-cultural interpersonal skills; able to develop and communicate a common vision among diverse partners.
  • Verbal and written fluency in English, along with strong communications, interpersonal, and presentation skills
