INTERNSHIP OFFICE BACKGROUND:

The Communications Unit of UNDP in Rwanda is interested in enrolling a Graphic Design intern. The intern will assist the Unit’s creative content development. The Graphic Design intern will work with the digital and social media focal points and with the other team members in the Communications team to ensure that the tone and visual representation of UNDP branded products are consistent. Reporting to the Communications Analyst, the Graphic Design Intern will support the team mainly on conceptualizing and creating web and social media visual assets for campaigns, events and other promotional purposes.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  Under the supervision of the Communications Analyst, the intern will:

  • Contribute with creative ideas to reach and engage different audiences.
  • Conceptualize and create digital communication products for different digital platforms in English and Kinyarwanda including videos and infographics.
  • Propose and update designs for corporate promotional products.
  • Provide overall graphic design support to the Communications Unit.
  • Support research on specific themes relating to UNDP’s mandate and develop social media visual materials (post cards, photos, etc) campaigns basing on those themes
  • Support the Communication Unit on the overall production of multimedia content

  • Proficient in main graphic design and photo editing software (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop)
  • Ability to convert complex and abstract ideas into simple visual concepts
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Must be able to work in a multicultural environment and be aware of political sensitivities
  • Familiarity with main social media platforms

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:

  • currently in the final year of a bachelor’s degree; or
  • currently enrolled in a master’s degree; or
  • have graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a master’s degree or equivalent studies.

Field of study: Graphic Designing/ Multimedia Design or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Experience in graphic design / multimedia design.
  • Experience designing compelling visuals for social media, including infographics and GIFs;
  • Motion graphic knowledge is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of brand principles and marketing is a plus.

IT skills:

  • Proficient in main graphic design and photo editing software (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop)

Language skills:

  • Fluent in written and spoken English ;
  • Knowledge of Kinyarwanda and French is an asset
  • Knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.

INTERNSHIP CONDITIONS

  • UNDP internships are given stipend in line with UNDP internship policy.
  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship.
  • Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed.
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship.
  • Interns must provide proof of enrolment in health insurance plan.
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
  • Interns are expected to work full time, but flexibility is allowed for education programmes;
  • Interns need to obtain financing for subsistence and make own arrangements for internship, travel, VISA, accommodation, etc.
