Role Profile


Title: Head of Commercial & Innovation


Reports to: Group Chief Operations Officer (COO)


Role Purpose: The 2 core purposes of this role are:


  • To deliver short-term profitability by leading the commercial team in implementing incremental improvements that drive market penetration and bottom-line growth


  • To lead the long-term profitability effort by managing a product/service development initiative that delivers, in disruptive fashion, products and services that drive future growth




– Lead a cross-functional team (Sales & Marketing; After Sales & Portfolio Management; Technical Services) to develop and execute the commercial strategy for the business


– Lead the effort to generate key market and customer insights that drive effective decision-making


– Understand the value drivers of the business, & identify commercial opportunities to profitably grow revenue and market share


– Support business units in conceiving, designing, and launching new product and service initiatives


– Assess the potential risk to the business of new commercial opportunities


– Work closely with internal departments to ensure that the needs of the customer are met, and that the requirements of the customer are fully communicated throughout the business (i.e. set the vision for the customer journey)


– Lead key I.T. projects to deliver improvements to software that is used by a large customer base


– Make compelling cases for, and direct seed funding towards, ‘homeless’ but very promising business ideas


– Implement a scorecard for monitoring the business’ innovation capability & performance




– 5+ years’ experience in a senior commercial role with P&L ownership, with a track record of delivering strong bottom-line performance


– Demonstrated track record of making compelling business cases for potentially disruptive ideas, securing funding for them, and leading teams in fast-growth, unstructured commercial environments to deliver paradigm-shifting products and services


– Gravitas, a passion for excellence, and a unique ability to build strong relationships


– Experience leading I.T. projects to deliver improvements to software on which a large customer base relies


– Proven strategic aptitude, with the ability to influence at a senior level internally and externally
– Commercial acumen, with strong customer orientation


– Demonstrated track record of leading teams of senior professionals to deliver outperformance


– Strong analytical, quantitative, problem-solving and project management skills


– First class time management and organizational skills, with a strong ability to prioritize
