Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
In full alignment with the draft 2018 Biomass Energy Strategy (BEST) of the government of Rwanda; SNV and GIZ will partner together to start a new project in the renewable energy sector. SNV will be promoting cookstoves at various tier levels in order for there to be wide consumer choice based on which improved cookstoves is right for the consumer. The overall objective of this programme will be to improve access to and sustained use of clean and efficient cooking solutions for poor households through market-led production and distribution of improved cookstoves. This will be done through interventions aimed at creating demand, strengthening the supply, and creating an enabling environment while at the same time acknowledging the importance of access to finance.
There are actually 22 improved cooking stoves (ICS) producer cooperatives at a different level of performance and production. The main responsibility of the ICS promotion and business development adviser will be to ensure their smooth operations while developing a market for ICS in these Districts.
Main responsibilities:
Develop a District ICS promotion strategy and plan in cooperation with local stakeholders
Creating public support at the decentralized level through multi-stakeholder dialogue on fuel and ICS issues;
Convening on concrete goals and public engagement in measures to achieve the ICS District Development targets;
Organize BCC awareness campaigns to rural ICS consumer groups and facilitate targeted ICS media campaign;
Organize ICS Sensitization, mobilization, awareness raising, promotion and marketing events and exhibitions in rural areas
monitor, assess and report on the efficiency and effectiveness of the promotion strategy: identify and document push and pull factors that facilitate/hinder the adoption of ICS technology
Develop tailor-made trainings on cooperative development, governance, and management geared at the existing ICS cooperatives
Improving the management and business operations for the rural ICS cooperatives
Developing business case and business plans for targeted ICS rural cooperatives
Conduct business mentorship for the ICS cooperative members (Producers, retailers, clients mobilizers and installers)
Improve ICS cooperatives viability through the establishment of saving groups and ensure access to finance
Business and brand awareness capacity building to ICS producers/Cooperatives
Supporting the establishment of a distribution network and “last mile” retailing system/Hubs in rural areas
Education: Degree in management or related fields.
Work experience and technical expertise:
Proven experience in products promotion and mobilization of consumer groups;
Proven experience in business coaching for cooperatives/or Small and Medium Enterprises;
Experience in cooperatives development and management;
Experience in private sector development (Including business plans development);
Experience into advocacy and District support;
Experience into establishing saving groups and access to finance
Deep knowledge of markets linkages in Rwanda rural settings
Past experience in setting-up win-win partnerships
At least 6 years of relevant working experience (promoting a new technology);
Knowledge, Technical expertise and Abilities:
excellent interpersonal and networking skills,
team commitment and gender sensitive;
good knowledge of the rural energy sector in Rwanda;
good knowledge of and well connected with the different actors in the sector;
excellent verbal and written communication skills in Kinyarwanda
Conceptual working and thinking level with experience in business coaching
Ability to network and conduct winning linkages
Attention to details, preciseness in the execution of tasks, solution-oriented working approach, and negotiation.
Language requirements: Good command of English and Kinyarwanda
Computer Skills: Proficiency /Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Reporting level: Reports to Project Manager
Qualifications
