About the PartnerShops program, of Rwanda’s Rural Retail team

The PartnerShops program (“PShops” for short) is the fastest-growing farmer program at One Acre Fund. We find local Agro Dealers to partner with, and we run the partnership program out of the Agrodealers’ shops. OAF’s role is to conduct field mobilization for harvest-improving inputs, as well as for high-quality solar lights; to improve the in-store customer services; to provide agricultural trainings at the shop; and to offer flexible financing options. Launched in 2017, the program has grown from 1 shop to the current 21 shops. In the most recent planting season, we served ~23,000 farmers. This year, we are growing to 100 shops, and we aim to reach national scale in the next 2 years.

Job Description

For the first 6 months in this role, you shall perform your tasks in the capacity of an expansion deputy. You will be the second-in-command, responsible for the 21A expansion of our program – our biggest expansion yet! We will open 80 new shops – across 5 new districts. The goal is to open the shops on-time, and to deliver quality services as soon as they’re open!

As Expansion Deputy, you will be responsible for completing the expansion activities on-time. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Hiring Field Leaders, and later Officers. We will need to hire 1x Director and 2-3x Managers per district. Later, we will hire again for 80x Officers.

  • Scouting sectors to decide if we’ll expand to every sector in the chosen districts.
  • Pitching the program to potential AGD partners, and then selecting our partners: You will co-host meetings at the district level, with a goal of convincing all of the best AGDs in a district to apply to join our partnership. After they apply, you’ll recommend which partners to select.
  • Setting performance targets for the new shops: You will collect required baseline information and set performance targets in coordination with the Execution Lead.
  • Innovating a process to send set-up materials to the field for new PShops: You will figure out how best to deliver a “shop in a box” to all new shops.
  • Coordinating the Launch Trainings for new shop officers: You will figure out how we will do Training-of-Trainers, and who will deliver the trainings. Then you’ll execute it.

Expansion will be considered done once Officers finish all trainings, and start field marketing. At that point, your role will change, and you will join the RRT Execution Team.

After the 6 months, you will transition into a support Coordinator. As the Support Coordinator, you will be involved in two primary types of work:

  • Execution & results management, to achieve our impact, sales, & repayment goals. You will go to the field regularly, make observations and recommendations, create materials like tools and talking points, and help us to understand and communicate how the program is performing.
