Position: Mental Health Community and Social Support Coordinator

Base Site: Kirehe or Kayonza
Number of position: 2

Duration: 3 Years

Direct Supervisor: Livelihood Program Manager

 

Overall responsibilities:

 

The Partners In Health/Inshuti Mu Buzima (PIH/IMB) Mental Health Community and Social Support Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and implementing community level activities as they relate to the development of a continuum of mental health care in Burera district. The position will work collaboratively within the PIH/IMB mental health team and will have administrative report to the PIH/IMB Mental Health Program Manager and technical report to PIH/IMB Kirehe/Kayonza Livelihood Program Manager.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

 

Apply the PIH/IMB care delivery model within the community, linking community based activities with clinical and social follow up at health center and district hospital levels to facilitate treating patients in the best and least restrictive way possible;
Liaison closely with Community Health (CH), Social Workers (SW), and the district mental health team to coordinate follow up care for recently hospitalized patients as well as patients who have defaulted or are otherwise especially vulnerable to being LTFU. This may include making home visits to patients who have defaulted, for example;
In collaboration with PIH/IMB Mental Health (MH), Social Work and all other relevant teams, work to systematize and implement a social support system that will ensure social support for the most vulnerable mental health patients as well as reduce barriers to care;
Work with the PIH/IMB community health and mental health teams to implement a system of monitoring and evaluating mental health interventions at the community level;
Work closely with the PIH/IMB Mental Health Program Manager to support the IMB mental health program in the areas of community mental health, social support, patient tracing, and training, and quality improvement;
Work with local and Boston teams to adapt training curricula for community health workers to the Rwandan context, and help to implement community level training;
Assist in support of the patient self-help groups and organize and implement community based education sessions around human rights and mental disorders and assist;
Actively participate in the strategic planning of PIH/IMB’s mental health program activities in Rwanda;
Coordinate and participate in regular mental health team meetings, as well as other meetings as needed;
Other activities as needs arise;

 




 

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS / ABILITIES / EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

 

A0 level in Social Worker and/or A1 or A0 level in Community Health or other relevant field;
Experience providing program support and training in mental health highly desired;
Computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet programs (Microsoft Office applications);
Experience in working with patients with disorders and social economic empowerment for vulnerable group;
Ability to work independently and take initiative;
Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated competence to assess priorities and manage a variety of activities in a time-sensitive environment and to meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality;
Excellent interpersonal skills required. Ability to interact professionally and as an effective team member with culturally diverse staff, clients, and partners;
Flexibility and an ability to think creatively;
Interest in social justice and public health;
Willingness to work outside of regular office hours, if needed;
Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda; knowledge of French will be an advantage.
