The East African Community is a regional intergovernmental organization comprising the Republic of Burundi, the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Rwanda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Republic of South Sudan, and the Republic of Uganda with its Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.

The EAC mission is to widen and deepen economic, political, social, and cultural integration to improve the quality of life of the people of East Africa through increased competitiveness, value added production, trade, and investments.

This is an exciting opportunity for highly motivated and result-driven professionals who are citizens of East African Community Partner States (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Sudan, and Uganda) to apply for the following position tenable at East African Court of Justice.

Main Purpose of the Job:

To manage the office and on the basis thereof provide effective and efficient secretarial, administrative and office management services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide Secretarial and administrative assistance
  2. Receive and refer customers/visitors and direct them appropriately
  3. Maintain office diary and draft responses to some correspondences as agreed with Supervisor
  4. Maintain an effective work relationship with others offices/departments and the general public
  5. Maintain an up to date diary and arrange appointments and meeting as appropriate
  6. Create and maintain appropriate record and filing sub-system
  7. In liaison with the Registry, handle incoming and outgoing correspondence
  8. Take and transcribe dictation and draft correspondence, memoranda etc; and
  9. Promote a positive good corporate culture and image of the EAC/EACJ.

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Diploma in Secretarial Studies or equivalent. Skills in typing of at least 60 wpm, and Shorthand speed of 100 wpm.
  2. 10 years of experience managing a busy office at senior level.
  3. Knowledge of court procedures is an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies:

Proficiency in secretarial work; computing skills, knowledge of work processing and computer database programmers, administrative skills, basic accounting skills, customer care, public relations, front desk management, ability to take dictations; good command of Business English and Office practices

Terms and Conditions of Service:

The above position is tenable for a contract of five (5) years renewable.

This position is subject to the application of the Quota System.

Relevant Working Experience:

Internship, training, and apprenticeship will not be considered as relevant work experience.

Deputize the Registrar in Judicial Administration, plan, manage, coordinate and implement policy decisions in relation to the East African Court of Justice.





Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitate Judicial Administration;
  2. Develop and facilitate implementation of Court process services procedures;
  3. Maintain judgment Register and ensure compilation and circulation of judgments;
  4. Process matters requiring the official seal of the Court and issue hearing notices;
  5. Draft Court Orders from Rulings and Decrees in accordance with the final decisions made by the Court and maintain the register of Orders and Decrees given by the Court;
  6. Receive and verify pleadings and ensure that they are presented in accordance with the Rules of the Court;
  7. Tax bills of costs and ensure execution of Orders;
  8. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Registrar.

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Masters in Law (LLM) from a recognized University;
  2. At least 10 years of experience in the management of Court functions, five (5) of which should be at senior management level.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills;
  • Good Research and Report Writing Skills;
  • Effective administrative ability as well as proficiency in the use of
