Background

 

The Rwanda Youth in Agribusiness Forum (RYAF) is a nationwide platform whose purpose is to change the current perception among the youths vis-à-vis the agriculture sector in Rwanda, while orienting them to seize investment opportunities through awareness creation, skills development, and advocacy support services. The idea is to create a critical mass of change agents to influence the transformation of agricultural business landscape with courage, determination and positive attitude. It is a platform of young entrepreneurs operating in any sub-sectors of agribusiness value chain (crop and/or livestock production, agro-processing, inputs and other agro-services as well as ICT in Agriculture). Officially launched in May 2016 with the aim to rejuvenate the sector here in Rwanda, RYAF strive to change and challenge youth mindset vis-a-vis agribusiness opportunities for food and nutritional security and sustainable job creation. The forum is officially legalized in the official gazette number 50 of 11th December 2017.

 

 

Job Tide: Coffee FFS Facilitator (8 Positions)

 

Under MoU signed between Reserves Forces and RYAF, RYAF is implementing Coffee Farmer Field School Project through providing and controlling qualified professionals to serve as Coffee FFS Facilitators.

 

The position of facilitator is to work directly with farmers groups and help them discover important concepts in agriculture through practical learning. The facilitator will reside in the same village as the farmers and meet with their groups daily.

 

The session will focus on Coffee farming, soil fertility management, on-farm experimentation, integrated pest management, on-farm experimentation, financial literacy, bookkeeping and other issues that come up for individual fanner groups.

 

 

 

The Responsibilities of Coffee FFS Facilitator

 

Sensitize local Coffee farmers and form Coffee FFS groups of 35 to 40 farmers that covers the Farmers of the area of Assignment.
Organize the Farmers groups and facilitate the election of farmer’s group focal Person.
Chose the model farmers to serve as demonstration plot to the farmer groups.
Train, support and provide the necessary Coffee & GAPs to the Coffee FFS groups.
Sensitize and mobilize Farmers to adopt the lessons and techniques learnt so as to meet Adoption rate of GAPs
Visit Farmers to check on adoption, Provide customized advice and feedback on agronomy practices and adoption.
Sensitize CWS to facilitate Coffee farmers by availing the agricultural tools to accessible
Enhance the capacity of cooperatives and CWS to support Coffee e farmers.
Submit the weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly report to Coffee 0 program manager on the progress activities of Coffee FFS Facilitator in the assigned region including the list of farmer’s trained (full identification) hard and soft copy, adoption of GAPs training provided, etc.
Liaise and work closely with CWS and local in the area of assignment.
Be a focal person of RYAF in Coffee le sector in the area of assignment.
Sensitize new farmers to invest in Coffee and interest Coffee farmers to extend their
Perform other tasks assigned by RYAF competent authority.
Reporting to Coffee Program Manager.

 

Basic Qualifications:

 

 

Diploma A2 in Agriculture level with experience in coffee farming
Strong attention to detail
Ready to start immediately
Knowledge on FFS model of extension
Able to live and work in the rural sector of operation (Ruhango, Karongi and Rutsiro District)
Having strong training and public speaking skills
