Occupational Therapist

Handicap International Federation, which runs programmes under its operational name “HUMANITY & INCLUSION” intervenes in the following areas in Rwanda since 1994:

 

Health, prevention, and rehabilitation

Socio-economic inclusion, education, and citizen participation
Prevention and protection against gender, age, and disability-based violence
In order to strengthen its capacity, HI recruits for its “Innovative and localized response to the humanitarian needs of vulnerable refugees and host communities in Rwanda’’ 4 Occupational Therapist (OTs) in the context of a salaried position.

 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager the Occupational Therapist is expected to meet the following tasks:

Assess the functional capacities of the beneficiaries and identify their needs for rehabilitation and specific items (20%)
Provide safe and appropriate Occupation therapy interventions (30%)
Refer beneficiary to other services in coordination with the project manager as needed (20%)
Report data on activities, follow-up on individual cases and organize the daily and weekly activities (20%)
Participate in the analysis and reporting of global issues experienced by the persons of concern with specific needs and persons with mental health and psychosocial issues with a focus on rehabilitation issues (10%)
She/he will act in collaboration with the existing project staff team, He/she will be based in Nyabiheke or Mahama camp with regular field visits in Kigali.

 

 

 

 

EXPECTED PROFILE

 

Essential

 

Qualification(s) : Degree in occupational therapy from a recognized University

 

Preferable

Demonstrated move towards professional development by a number of other courses taken in the field of expertise

 

Experience (type and length of experience) :

 

Minimum 1 year of experience in performing similar task through internships/clinical placements or other voluntary engagements linked Occupation therapy services
Good experience working with most vulnerable groups such as: persons with disabilities, elderly people and persons with mental health issues

 

Competencies (knowledge, skills required for the job, (see skills repository) :

 

Ability to work in an multidisciplinary team
Demonstrated ability to develop and apply clinical tools
Knowledge of users cantered approach
Good capacity to organize and conduct training and community awareness raising campaigns
Knowledge of community-based rehabilitation approach
Ability to work with partners
Knowledge of referral mechanism
Ability to develop information materials
Capacity to document the project achievements, lessons learned and ability to write good project reports
