SOS Children’s Villages Rwanda is a child-focused organization that provides direct services to the areas of care, education, and health for children at risk of losing parental care and those who have lost parental care.

SOS Children’s Villages is a non-governmental, non-political, non-denominational and non-racial and has been operating in Rwanda since 1979. The overall mission of the organization is to build the families for children in need help them shape their own future and share in the development of their communities. SOS Children’s Villages Rwanda is legally registered as a National Association.

To realize the mission of the organization, SOS Children’s Villages Rwanda is recruiting a field officer who will be in charge of oral health project at Kayonza and Gicumbi locations.

Purpose of the position

The purpose of the position is to ensure support, supervise and facilitate daily handwashing and tooth brushing activities in schools and train FSP Volunteers in oral health-related matters with the following tasks:

To carry out the implementation of project activities according to the objectives, actions and periods outlined in the project document.
To ensure that the project operates as planned with the organization’s policies and procedures as well as project design.
To support capacity-building of project implementation beneficiaries and partners
To build a strong community network of partner organizations.
To build strong relationships with District hospitals, Health centers, community workers; Home-based Care practitioners, local government authorities, organizations and/or institutions who provide complementary services.
To participate in community forums dealing with issues affecting oral and general health.

Key Functions

To gather consents from the parents in order to allow the students and children to take part of the program.
To take lead in the monitoring of project activities, with the PTAs and teachers.
To conduct basic community orientation about the project for FSP Volunteers, teachers, principals, PTA members, and parents, in order to establish a connection with the community.
To conduct local advocacy activities in cooperation with SOS RW, to support local awareness of oral health.
To conduct trainings to FSP Volunteers, teachers and principals as required by the project plan
To empower, motivate and support teachers, as well as the schoolchildren, in the daily activities.
To examining children with toothaches and make a clinical decision to the cause

Required qualifications &Skills


Being of Rwandan Nationality
Registered A0 dental therapist with three years experience in community health interventions and outreach
Proficiency in Kinyarwanda and English both writing and speaking skills
Teamwork skills with Sense of humor and direction
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Computer literacy (Ms. Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
