Unilever Tea Rwanda (UTR) has recently signed an agreement with the Government of Rwanda to establish a brand-new tea estate and factory on 800 hectares of land expropriated from the local population, as well as to partner with a third party to help develop 3400 hectares of smallholder farmers as out grower tea farms to supply the tea factory.

MAIN JOB PURPOSE:

The Accounts Assistant will report to the Finance Manager and will be responsible to deliver financial support to the Estates through partnering with Managers. The Job holder will ensure compliance to Unilever Code of Business Principles and give assurance that financial controls are in place and working.

The focus of efforts will be in the area of preparation and discussion of Estates performance reports. The Accounts Assistant will play a partnering role with the Managers through provision and discussion of unit accounts and performance reports. This role will ensure that the Cost of production reports are prepared timely, accurately and discussed with the units.

 

 

 

 

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Offer support to the Finance Manager and Estates Managers by performing the following roles:

Ensure all month end returns are received at Accounts Dept on time, by constantly liaising with the Unit Managers and providing the necessary support so that Unilever reporting dates are complied with.
Will Validate Cash, Payroll and Stocks Journals before interface and verify manually posted vouchers before posting to ledger. This is done via an automated validation process in the sun system then any corrections are done manually so as to ensure accuracy and completeness of the interface files.
Will carry out concise and timely monthly reconciliations for Cash, Stocks, Payroll, and Clearance accounts by comparing the sun system ledger balance with Unit statements and taking corrective action on reconciling items. This is done to confirm that the ledger balance represents the actual balances at the unit level to enhance the integrity of the company balances.

Accounts Assistant prepares and issues unit cost of production reports and variance reports. This is done by extracting all costs incurred from the ledger and comparing with the previous year and forecast. This is to ensure that the company costs are monitored and also assist management in the allocation of resources.
Carry out monthly accounts discussions with the Estates Manager, variance and Cost of production reports are presented and reviewed, to ensure that the overall performance of each unit in the business unit is in line with the overall company performance.

Ensure that controls are in place in the Units and are actually working, by reviewing all source documents to ensure that they are supported and dully approved. This is to ensure that all units transactions are performed as per company policies and accounting procedures
Implement Audit recommendations by discussing and interpreting the audit findings with the Unit Managers. This is to ensure that the audit recommendations are implemented correctly in line in accounting manual instructions.
Support the business units forecasting process by providing the historical and projected figures and other necessary budget support, to ensure that the unit final forecast submission is in line with company overall forecast.
Perform Operational control assessment (OCA), by documenting flow of company transactions, identifying risks and mitigating controls.

Do business partnering with Estate Managers through coordination of:

Provision of the monthly business unit cost of production
Review business unit accounts with Operations team

Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

 

KEY REQUIREMENTS

 

 

Bachelors’ Degree in Finance/Accounting related fields
2-4 years’ Experience in Financial transactions
Experience in the Tea industry is an added advantage
Knowledge of Accounting systems (SAGE, X3, SuN, ERP, SAP, etc)
Skilled in Taxation regime
Fluent in the English language is a MUST
