WfWI – Rwanda seeks a dynamic and experienced candidate for the position of Economic Empowerment Officer (EE Officer) based in Ngoma, Nyaruguru District. S/he will be responsible of providing support and economic empowerment expertise that will enable economic self-sufficiency for the WfWI program (participants, graduates, self-help groups and cooperatives), including training. S/he is also responsible for new business development and existing business expansion and development of opportunities in a wide range of economic sectors especially off-farm job creation sector. Economic Empowerment Officer will report to the Economic Empowerment Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for WfWI’s Core and Graduate Follow up Program in Nyaruguru District
  • Constant review of the Training curricula (Numeracy/Literacy, Business Skills) and provide suggestions for changes based on prevailing conditions
  • Set up training schedules for Numeracy/Literacy, business, vocational skills and be directly involved in the selection process for Temporary Trainers
  • Prepare and conduct training of trainers (TOT) for Temporary Trainers in Numeracy/Literacy, Business Basics, Vocational Skills, VSLAs and Cooperative training
  • Supervise Temporary Trainers, Compile (monitoring) reports received from them, analyze the information, conduct regular verification visits to the field and give suggestions to direct supervisor on way forward

  • Build the capacity of self-help groups by training members in issues related to membership, roles and responsibilities, leadership, structures, conflict resolution, etc. as well as assisting interested groups to pursue legal registration (Cooperative)
  • Be involved in the establishment, capacity building and regular follow up of VSLAs in Nyaruguru District
  • Provide regular business advisory services and technical capacity especially for WfWI program graduates and other community members to improve their understanding of business-related concepts and to be able to write business plans that can easily attract funding
  • Provide promising business owners (program participants and graduates) with information on access to market and finance

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Business, Economic Development, Marketing or a related field
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience some of which are within the INGO sector
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • High motivation and initiative
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Good networking skills
  • Good report writing and computer skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well as part of a team
  • Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda, including reading, writing and oral skills
