The University of Texas at Tyler has an immediate opening for a Graduate Assistant position assisting with Sports Information and Marketing for the UT Tyler athletic department. Duties include assisting with all aspects of athletics communications, digital media, marketing and brand enhancement. The ideal candidate will be flexible and eager to learn and grow in a fast-paced working environment while well-representing the University and the Athletic Department in a professional manner. The candidate must be adept at both strategy and execution. The candidate must have high energy, a positive attitude, and be a creative thinker who has a collaborative, pro-active style and willing to try new initiatives


This position includes a tuition waiver for up to nine hours per semester and a $1,000 monthly stipend. The candidate must have an undergraduate degree and be admitted to a UT Tyler graduate program. Primary Duties:

Sports Information

-Assist the athletic communications department in their coverage of UT Tyler’s 17 varsity sports.
-Work with the Sports Information Director to assist in staffing and execution of gameday responsibilities of the sports information department.
-Assist with the management of the UT Tyler Athletics website and social media accounts as well as providing content for video boards and in-game entertainment.


-Assist with the marketing efforts of the athletic department, including but not limited to: corporate sponsor engagement, in-game promotional activities and alumni engagement.
-Assist in developing strategies for improving attendance and the overall fan experience at home events.
-Develop and maintain relationships across campus and implement initiatives to increase student attendance and engagement at athletic events while working closely with Student Affairs, Greek Life, Residence Life and the Homecoming Committee.

Minimum Qualifications:

The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in communications, sports management, graphic design, marketing, journalism or related area of study.
One year of experience working within a collegiate athletic department. Specifically, within an athletic communications, marketing or external operations office.
Strong technical, organizational, multi-tasking and interpersonal skills and creativity required as well as the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and willingness to be a team player.
Proactive and detail oriented with strong follow-up skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong knowledge of social media means and effective uses
Ability to be flexible with work hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
High energy level and positive attitude.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong working knowledge and demonstrated experience with graphic design, Adobe Creative Suite, and video production.
Strong working knowledge of development of marketing plans and analysis of market data.
1 to 2 years of experience in marketing, promotions, sales or tickets sales in collegiate, professional or minor league field.
