Organizational Setting

FAO Representation in Rwanda is a fully-fledged office since 11 July 1985. It works directly with the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI) and indirectly with other ministries and government institutions to advance all spheres of agriculture transformation for Better production, Better Nutrition, a Better environment, and a Better life for all Leaving no One Behind. FAO Rwanda implements various projects that aim at contributing to the global goal of ending hunger and other related Sustainable Development Goals. All its activities are carried out under FAO’s FAO Strategic Framework 2022-31, Rwanda’s Strategic Plan for Agriculture Transformation, and FAO Rwanda’s Country Programming Framework. FAO Rwanda is hiring an FFLS Master Trainer to support in the Joint Program on Rural Women Economic Empowerment (JPRWEE) implementation.

Reporting Lines

He/she will work under the general supervision of the FAO Representative in Rwanda and direct supervision of the Assistant FAOR/Programme and will work closely with the National Project Coordinator of the project.

Technical focus 

The Master trainer will oversee the Training of identified Facilitators on Farmer Field and Life School(FFLS) approach, coaching them during the Learning process at field level including organizing and doing a refresher session for those facilitators.

Tasks and responsibilities

•    Organize and train identified facilitators, staffs from local government and Implementing partners in charge of the program on Farmer Field and Life School approach (methodology, tools, reporting, Monitoring and Evaluation….)
•    Support technicians from the Implementing partners and trained facilitators in finetuning actions plans for created FFLS.
•    Support project beneficiaries, local authorities and Implementing partner in identifying key life skills needed to accelerate self-resilience.
•    Coaching facilitators and other related staff on the Empowerment of beneficiaries through a curriculum which combines agricultural, technical and life skills thematic depending on the needs expressed by farmers.
•    Organize refresher courses for facilitators, to empower them on the approach and help them to use correctly tools available.
•    Support the Implementing partner in Organizing study tours on former FFLS members to learn from them.
•    Perform other related duties as required by supervisors.
•    Prepare an end-of-assignment report upon completion of his/her assignment.
•    Ensure that the FFLS facilitators are practising the FFLS techniques, group dynamics they learnt during the trainings.
•    Ensure FFLS tools like Agro Eco-System Analysis (AESA) are used and completed correctly.
•    In collaboration with the Implementing partner, establish an M&E plan and a reporting system for the facilitators (monthly, quarterly and six monthly)
•    Ensure that the M&E tools established will monitor adoption and diffusion of improved agricultural technologies from FFLS to the rest of the community.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements    

  •    University Degree in Rural development, Sociology, Gender studies or other related fields.
    •    More than 10 years of experience in capacity building of farmers using FFLS approach.
    •    A certificate of FFLS Master Trainer.
    •    Good working knowledge of English (Level C).
    •    National of Rwanda or resident of the country with a legal work permit.

Technical/Functional Skills

  •    Capacity of training in Kinyarwanda
    •    Good knowledge of UN system, procedures and operational activities is an advantage.
    •    Practical experience, strong knowledge and understanding of the Farmers Field and Life School approach.
    •    working knowledge of French (Level C) will be an asset.
    •    Experience in organizing/conducting Training of Trainers in FFLS approach.
    •    Experience with different projects using FFLS for Farmers Empowerment
    •    Experience in using participatory approaches during training.
    •    Analytical skills and ability to write clear and concise reports in English.
    •    Teamwork and results oriented.
