Production Unit Supervisor

Based in Kayonza, Rwanda

Overview:

The Urugo Women’s Opportunity Center (WOC) is a multi-purpose community center in the heart of Kayonza, which promotes the social and economic empowerment of women in Rwanda. The Center offers education and rights training, job-skills training and economic and employment opportunities for women and the community at-large. With the goal of achieving self-sustainability, the Center also operates revenue-generating activities to finance its educational and training work, such as lodging facilities, restaurant and bar, coffee shop, handicraft gift shop, market stalls, food production unit, and rental of space for meetings and events. The Urugo-WOC is managed and operated by a Limited Liability Company (LLC) fully owned by Women for Women International.

Purpose:

 The Urugo Women’s Opportunity Center seeks a qualified production Supervisor who will be responsible for the technical supervision and control of industrial production processes for Yoghurt, Cheese and other dairy products at the WOC.

S/he will ensure that all production activities at the WOC are carried out in line with established production policies & procedures, and will work under the supervision of the WOC Finance and Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Driving sales of the production unit
  • Planning, organizing and overseeing production processes and schedules
  • Assessing project and resources requirements
  • Estimating budgets and timescales for production, in consultation with WOC Finance and Operations Manager
  • Determining quality control standards and ensuring they are met.
  • Revising production timescales or schedules as necessary
  • Selecting, ordering and purchasing materials, following standard WfWI procurement procedures
  • Organizing the repair and routine maintenance of production equipment
  • Liaising with buyers, marketing and sales staff
  • Supervising the work of all production staff.
  • Ensure timely distribution of the products
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and on-the-job training to subordinates
  • Other Duties as Assigned by Supervisor

Required Skills &Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science & Nutrition. Specialized academic certificates will be considered as an added advantage.
  • Professional experience of more than three (3) years in the field of food processing and production for a reputable company.
  • Knowledge of Food Production machinery.
  • Good judgment skills, positive attitude to work, demonstrates initiative, problem solving and entrepreneurial skills;
  • Demonstrated team spirit, and a proven ability to take initiatives for the good of the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well as a part of a team and to interact professionally with culturally and linguistically diverse staff.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong analytical, reasoning and problem-solving abilities;
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail;
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion is required;
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and to take initiative;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Kinyarwanda is required;
  • Honest and demonstrating the highest ethical standards.

  • Strong competency in computer and email applications (MS Word, Excel, Outlook.”
