JOB DESCRIPTION: PROGRAM COORDINATOR/SUGIRA MURYANGO PROGRAM

FXB Rwanda is a Rwandan Local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) created in February 2012. It is affiliated to FXB International; an international NGO created in 1989, whose mission is to fight poverty and HIV/AIDS. FXB Rwanda in partnership with Boston College of the United States is implementing a research program on children and adversity in Rwanda.  FXB Rwanda is a leading implementing partner of a research initiative, Strong Families locally known as “Sugira Muryango.” Which focuses on home-visiting to promote early childhood development (ECD) for families living in extreme poverty in Rwanda. Since 2019, FXB Rwanda in partnership with Boston College School of Social work received funds from multiple donors to scale up the Sugira Muryango interventions in three District of Rwanda namely Rubavu, Nyanza and Ngoma. Job location: FXB Rwanda Sugira Muryango coordination office in Kigali, Rwanda.

Period:  Position is for 10 months with possibility for extension depending on the availability of funds and performance.

  1. JOB PURPOSE

Sugira Muryango is a Family Strengthening Intervention (FSI) research initiative designed for families living in extreme poverty. It is a preventative, family-based model that uses home visiting and active coaching to encourage positive parent-child interactions, while discouraging violence against children. Through quantitative and qualitative research methods, the program investigates key mechanisms shaping child development and mental health. The program develops evidence-based mental health and family-based preventative interventions that support positive outcomes and can be effectively delivered at scale in low-resource settings. With a current focus on hybrid designs, the RPCA and FXB Rwanda prioritizes understanding intervention effectiveness and implementation/process outcomes that support scaling and sustainment efforts.

Under the direct supervision of Program Manager(s), Program Coordinator will be responsible to support all aspects of family intervention projects related to early childhood development (ECD) and violence prevention. The coordinator will be responsible for participant and interventionist enrollment, supporting training materials development and facilitation, data collection and management, providing
support to field staff and will liaise regularly with partner organizations, local government, and Boston College RPCA Team.

  1. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Support the Program Manager(s) to provide on-the-ground support across the three districts, field logistics, and liaise regularly with partner organizations on the ground as well as local government officials to fulfill the aims of the program projects.
  • Collect data on the implementation of the model and the delivery of services.
  • Coordinate participant and interventionist enrollment and tracking.
  • Coordinate and support training materials development and facilitation for field staff.
  • Ensures accurate data entry and management in various systems, such as Excel and Google Docs.
  • Support the production of training videos including script and narrative development for a Digital Dashboard Data Collection tool in conjunction with the Government of Rwanda and government agencies including Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion (MIGEPROF) and National Child Development Agency (NCDA).
  • Support the field staff in Risk of Harm and referral trainings, identification and tracking
  • Provide technical support to district team leaders in the identification, analysis, documentation and dissemination of lesson leant, best practices and success stories from the program
  • Participate in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual program reports to be shared with stakeholders and donors
  • Analyze interventions’ results, and trends for sharing with Staff and other stakeholders to enhance knowledge sharing.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by his or her supervisor

3. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENT KNOWLEDGE

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree (preferredpsychology, social science or health relatedfields); Masters in the related field will be an added advantage.
  • At least 4 years of experience in working with OVC or ECD research related projects experience in assessing; ECD development and mental health outcomes;
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and diplomacy to deal effectively with
    multiple constituencies and cultural diversity at all levels.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in both Kinyarwanda and English;
  • Ethical sensitivity and strong judgement in working with vulnerable households;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Email (Gmail preferred);
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with sensitivity, evaluate problems thoroughly,
    show resourcefulness in identifying solutions, and display sound judgment.
  • Able to motivate, develop, and inspire colleagues and employees at all levels.
  • Demonstrated maturity and capacity to navigate a complex environment and respond to shifting and fluid priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively.
