Brief Background – Introduction
TREPA is funded by Green Climate Fund and implemented by a consortium of 6 partners – IUCN (lead), Enabel, RFA, WV, ICRAF and Cordaid. The project includes a variety of components to promote climate adaptation and land restoration in Eastern Province, with Cordaid focusing on the cross-cutting need of access to finance. This is done in close collaboration with all partners, and specifically ICRAF and WV who are responsible for supporting individuals, groups and coops to grow their climate resilient business.
Cordaid is a global, non-governmental development organization, whose mission is to end poverty and injustice. Cordaid works in the fields of climate resilience, food and income, private sector development. Our projects aim to strengthen households to generate more income from farming. Farmers are supported to increase the production of quality food to meet subsistence needs.
Job’s Aim
The Project Officer will primarily provide technical support to partners/consultants contracted under TREPA project. He/she will engage in regular coordination and consultation with the Program Manager, Access to Finance Expert, and Mel officers; provide technical inputs during planning, implementation, and completion of the project; monitor the implementation and progress of project activities; and ensure timely completion of deliverables based on Cordaid’s tools and standards
Knowledge, Skills, and Experiences
- University degree in rural development, agribusiness, agriculture economics, business administration or other related subject with good academic results
- 2 – 5 years of experience working in supporting Producer Organizations (POs) in value chain development and experience of 1 – 5 years in access to finance.
- Experience working and managing different organization partners,
- Experience of agribusiness / market linkages / value chain development
- Good understanding of agribusiness in Rwanda
- Experience with rural areas and understanding of the ability and constraints of rural smallholder farmers
- Knowledge of the project field of expertise for example agriculture/health/economy or other relevant subject on an academic level and able to provide technical solutions
- Social skills to agree on deliverables, ensure progress with staff and to support partners
- Behavioural values and skills: trust, accountability, problem solving, cooperation, teambuilding, negotiation, conflict management, collaboration, flexibility, creativity
- Writing skills to clearly formulate project proposals, project plan, project reports as well as comminating its results through different platforms
- Knowledge of the legal framework that governs Cordaid’s operations, as required by local and national government and by major donors (EU, UN, US, Bilateral Donors)
- Knowledge of the mission statement and goals of the Cordaid
