UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development: (Deadline 30 April 2021)

Applications are open for UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development. The UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for sustainable development, funded by the Government of Japan, consists of three annual awards of USD 50,000 for each recipient.

UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development winners recognize the role of education in connecting the social, economic, cultural, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. It was established by the Executive Board of UNESCO at its 195th session within the framework of the Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD and officially announced at the UNESCO World Conference on ESD (10-12 November 2014, Aichi-Nagoya, Japan).

Prizes

• Three laureates of the 2021 Prize will receive an award of USD 5,000 each.
• In addition to that, winners will be invited to join the SED for 2030 Global Network (ESD-Net), in order to establish a long-term collaboration with UNESCO beyond the award ceremony.

Criteria

Eligible for the Prize are institutions and organizations with a specific ESD project/programme that must:

• Be ongoing and has been running for at least 4 years.
• Show the presence of evidence of results and a high impact relative to the invested resources.
• Be replicable and scalable.

Advice on Nomination

Some general advice on completing the nomination form:

• Carefully read and follow the instructions for each field of the form.
• Write in a clear and concise way (have at least one other person proofread the nomination).
• Strictly respect the word limit
• Pay particular attention to the project/programme abstract, which should summarize the entire nomination.
• Candidates: Contact potential nominators as early as possible, to give them to validate and submit the nomination
