Job Description
INTRODUCTION
Save the Children has been working in Rwanda since 1994 in partnership with the Government of Rwanda (GoR) and local stakeholders to promote a bright future for children. We have experience working in all 30 districts across the country. The main areas of focus are education, child protection, child rights governance, and health and nutrition in humanitarian and development contexts.
GENERAL BACKGROUND

ROLE PURPOSE:
The Child Protection Officer is a member of Save the Children’s (SC) Child Protection team. Under the supervision of the Child Protection Programme Coordinator, the role holder will be responsible for implementation of the UNICEF funded Programme on “Strengthening Child Protection and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support for All Children including within Schools” in the designated districts to ensure:
- Schools provide safe, protective and inclusive learning environments for girls, children with disabilities and other vulnerable learners.
- Strengthened child protection system through the National Child Protection Case Management Framework.
- Increased capacity of frontline health and protection workers to provide MHPSS to affected children and their families
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Planning and implementing programme activities, and ensuring they align with the project programme objectives
- Coordinating with relevant stakeholders, such as Child Protection and Welfare Officers, and District Education Officers to ensure the programme achieves its deliverables
- Documenting, supervising, controlling, and monitoring planned activities
- Preparing analytical reports and presentations on the progress of the programme
- Work in collaboration with MEAL team to assess the programme progress and documenting success or impact stories.
- Under the supervision of the Child protection Coordinator, establish and maintain constructive relationships with other service providers for a smooth implementation of the programme,
- Engage community-based structures like Friends of the Family (Inshuti Z’Umuryango)
- Provide regular program reports, on time and with accurate data;
- Support and participate in programme monitoring and evaluation activities as requested.
- Ensure safety and proper management of project properties.
- Remain flexible in adopting additional responsibilities based on team and organizational needs, to be balanced with responsibilities listed above;
- Maintain positive working relationships with members of the team.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- University degree in Social Sciences.

- Minimum of 4 years’ experience working in child protection program implementation
- Ability to communicate in English and Kinyarwanda through verbal and written communication.
- Good technical understanding of child protection and project management
- Computer knowledge, good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to prioritize tasks
- Ability to work in tight deadlines and under pressure.
- Experience with community development, working with children and schools.
- The ability to think critically and to recommend good solutions to problems.
- Strong Organizational skills.
- Ability to conduct outreach at the community level.

CHILD SAFEGUARDING
This position is Child Safeguarding Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.
