Flinders University Carmel Baulderstone Memorial Scholarship 2024: (Deadline 30 April, 2024)

 

 

 

This scholarship has been established from a bequest made from the estate of Bert and Carmel Baulderstone, and contributed to by their family, friends and colleagues.

The Carmel Baulderstone Memorial Scholarship is designed to provide assistance to undergraduate nursing students admitted to the Bachelor of Nursing at Flinders University and enrolled in the second or third year of the course to undertake a Professional Experience Placement at a College of Nursing and Health Sciences-approved clincial education facility in a rural or remote setting.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the health needs of Australians living in rural and remote areas.

Aim and Benefits of Carmel Baulderstone Memorial Scholarship

The scholarships will provide a contribution towards a living allowance and travel costs, and subject to the availability of funds, will be awarded to one or more students to a total value of $6000 annually.

At the discretion of the selection panel, the value of the scholarship may vary between successful applicants depending on the duration and location of their placement and student circumstances.

Requirements for Carmel Baulderstone Memorial Scholarship Qualification

Applicants for the scholarship must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or hold permanent residency status; and
  • Be enrolled in, or intending to enrol in, a Professional Experience Placement topic in the second or third year of the Bachelor of Nursing  at Flinders University; and
  • Be able to demonstrate an interest in and understanding of the health needs of Australians living in rural and remote areas;
  • Maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 5.0

Special Conditions: If a recipient is unable to attend the rural placement, he or she will be required to repay the scholarship in full.

Selection Criteria

The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

  • academic merit.
  • a demonstrated knowledge and understanding  of the health needs of Australians living in rural and remote areas.

Preference will be given to placements with an Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC) rural and remote location classification of RA3 or RA4.

Eligible applications will be assessed by a panel consisting of representatives from the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Aim and Benefits of Flinders University Student Access Scholarships

Subject to the availability of funds, scholarships will be available for the first year of study at Flinders University and will be worth $5,000.

Requirements for Flinders University Student Access Scholarships Qualification

All Scholarship applicants must be:

  • Australian citizens; and
  • commencing the first year of study in their first undergraduate degree at Flinders University; and
  • normally enrolled full-time at Flinders University*; and
  • eligible for, or in receipt of, a Commonwealth Income Support payment; or
  • be able to demonstrate financial hardship; and
  • seeking, or have gained, admission to their course on the basis of their ATAR, Indigenous Admissions Scheme, VET qualification, Foundation Studies, Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) or Work and Life Experience/Special Entry.

* Applications will be accepted from part-time students who have extenuating circumstances that prevent them from studying full-time (e.g. disabilities, carer responsibilities). Part-time recipients will be paid pro-rata.

Eligible scholarship applicants will be ranked in accordance with their entry score relevant to their pathway to Flinders.

Scholarships will be awarded within each of the entry pathways.

How to Apply

Applications should be submitted online through the Flinders University Student System. Applicants will need to login and navigate to the My Scholarships tab to submit an application. The application form for this scholarship is called ” Flinders University Student Access Scholarships”, or you can search for it by the keyword “Access”.

The following documentation  will be required as part of the application process:

  • Applicants who are in receipt of a Commonwealth Income Support payment will need to demonstrate evidence of this. This can be done by uploading a recent Centrelink (or DVA) Income Statement which shows you are currently in receipts of government means tested benefits.
  • Applicants who are not in receipt of a Commonwealth Income Support payment as described above will need to complete the Financial Hardship Form which is downloadable below.
