About the Fellowship
Investisseurs & Partenaires (I&P) is pleased to announce the launch of the African Development Bank Fellowship for Emerging Fund Managers. This fellowship aims to support 20 emerging African fund managers actively investing across the continent.
About the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Lab: Is housed under the Human Capital, Youth and Skills Development Department (AHHD) at AfDB. The Lab aims to support high-potential startups and enhance entrepreneurial ecosystems across the continent.
This 8-month programme, starting in June 2025, is designed to help emerging fund managers:

Scale their operations

Overcome key growth barriers

Strengthen investor relations
-
Build lasting institutional capacity
It offers a comprehensive blend of training, mentorship, and networking opportunities specifically tailored to the African investment landscape.
Responding to Sector-Wide Challenges
The fellowship addresses a range of structural issues confronting fund managers across Africa:

Difficulty accessing capital and building trust with institutional investors and DFIs

Complexities in fund structuring and aligning with diverse LP expectations
-
Operational challenges in team management, deal execution, and compliance
-
Rising expectations related to climate finance, gender-lens investing, and impact measurement

Limited access to LP networks and capital allocators
-
Broader macroeconomic and perception-related barriers, especially for youth- and women-led funds

Eligibility
The fellowship is open to emerging private equity (PE) and venture capital (VC) fund managers who:

Are actively investing across Africa
-
Have secured initial commitments or are at/near the launch or close of their first fund
-
Manage relatively small, high-potential portfolios
-
Focus on underserved sectors or regions
-
Have less than USD 50 million in assets under management
Note: Fund managers with youth (under 35 years) in senior leadership roles are strongly encouraged to apply.
