The Archivio Luigi Pericle in Ascona and the Dahlem Humanities Center (DHC) at Freie Universität Berlin are presenting a one-of-a-kind Research Fellowship for the academic year 2026. This program enables one scholar to explore deeply into cultural, historical, and artistic subjects against the tranquil backdrop of the Swiss Alps.

A new research grant for postdoctoral researchers and senior scholars in the humanities working at Freie Universität Berlin is being offered by the Dahlem Humanities Center (DHC) at Freie Universität Berlin (Germany) in collaboration with the Archivio Luigi Pericle in Ascona (Switzerland). The candidate selected will be able to spend up to 6 weeks at the Archivio Luigi Pericle conducting research and writing projects on various aspects of the Ascona region.

Financial Benefits:

On March 1, 2026, the chosen fellow will begin a six-week residency at Archivio Luigi Pericle/Hotel Ascona, where they will be cordially received. This bundle includes:

• Room and Board at Hotel Ascona
• Stipend for 600 CHF
• Access to important archive documents promotes research in topics such as
  • Monte Verità,
  • utopian communities,
  • Luigi Pericle’s art,
  • philosophy,
  • theosophy, and
  • early modern to twentieth-century cultural movements.
• Travel expenses are not covered.
• However, postdoctoral researchers at Freie Universität Berlin can apply for additional travel support of up to €500 from the Ernst-Reuter-Gesellschaft.

• Postdoctoral researchers and senior scholars (professors) in humanities.
• Applicants must work at Freie Universität Berlin, specifically in:
  • Department of Philosophy and Humanities
  • The Department of Historical and Cultural Studies
  • One of the main institutes (LAI, JFKI, OEI).

How to Apply for the Switzerland Research Fellowship 2026?

1. Postdoctoral and senior scholars (professors) in the humanities working at Freie Universität Berlin’s Department of Philosophy and Humanities, Department of History and Cultural Studies, or one of its central institutes (LAI, JFKI, OEI) are eligible to apply.
2. Please send a cover letter, a CV, and a research proposal (around 1,500 words, not including bibliography), specifying goals and, if possible, materials and documents to be consulted during the fellowship, as one PDF file to geschaeftsfuehrung@dhc.fu-berlin.de.
3. In December 2025, applicants will be notified of the results of the selection process.
