We have an outstanding opportunity for a Research Manager in our Economic, Youth and Sustainable Development Directorate

 

Reporting to the Head of Social Policy Development, the Research Manger will contribute to the development of the Youth team’s strategic direction, especially as it pertains to strengthening youth policy and practice. He/she will have responsibility for driving the thought leadership aspect of the youth work; design, implementation and management of pan-Commonwealth youth research protocols/guidelines including ethical standards; establish and maintain youth strategic research partnerships while maintaining communications with relevant stakeholders.

 

 

 

The post-holder will supervise two Assistant Programme Officer, as well as external consultants and academics engaged to deliver key aspects of the research programme. He/she will also liaise and collaborate with the Programmes Managers, Operations Officer and key staff from other Commonwealth Secretariat divisions/ directorates.

 

To be considered, you will need to have a post-graduate degree in a relevant discipline, such as social sciences, youth development, international development or the humanities. Also required are: a professional qualification in a field such as youth work, community or international development, social or public administration. At least five years experience of working in a government or non-government organisation in a senior programme and/or research capacity, including management of research projects. In addition you will also have eight years’ experience in a field related to social research or policy development.

 

The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 53 member governments and provides guidance on policy making, technical assistance and advisory services to Commonwealth member countries. We support governments to help achieve sustainable, inclusive and equitable development.

We have an outstanding opportunity for a Social Policy Officer (Education) in our Economic, Youth and Sustainable Development Directorate.

 

Under the supervision of the Education Adviser, the Social Policy Officer (Education) provides professional, technical, research, operational and administrative assistance to the Social Policy Development Section. S/he will be responsible for supporting the programming process for the Secretariat’s education programmes/projects including performing tasks to facilitate programme development, implementation, progress monitoring and evaluation and reporting.

The post-holder will be required to develop effective working relationships with Member Countries and other key stakeholders specifically to support the delivery of the Secretariat’s social development programme.

 

To be considered, you will need to have a Post graduate degree in Education, Social Policy, Development Studies, Business Administration, Economics or a related Social Science discipline. Also required are: At least 3 years’ relevant work experience in/with international development organisations, particularly in the areas of education, policy development or social development. Also a sound understanding of project design, including project budgeting and forecasting, the use of tools such as Project Cycle Management (including the Logical Framework) and Results-Based Management (RBM) are also required.
