Evidence and Advocacy Manager at Ubuntu Center for Peace: (Deadline 5 July 2020)

The Evidence and Advocacy Manager is responsible for designing, analyzing, and coordinating Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) that helps UCP and its stakeholders to (1) advance the field of integrated Community-based Social Healing and (2) develop/support an advocacy agenda. Specific tasks include:

  • Provide input in the design and execute systems for monitoring and tracking program quality and performance. Many systems are already in place and require review and strengthening.
  • Consolidate all collected data, manage/analyze them, and provide analytical visual data and dashboards monthly to inform program improvement and management team decision making.
  • Participate in developing the research and learning agenda, including needs assessments, thematic research pieces, and internal use of data and information in programs
  • Lead on writing, editing and quality controls for research/evaluation reports and presentations
  • Communicating the results of research or project evaluation results to internal and external constituents through a variety of avenues (research reports, convenings, training, conference presentations, web resources, social media, etc.).

Advocacy

In coordination with the Ubuntu Center for Peace’sExecutive Director, the Evidence and Advocacy Manager is responsible for managing the UCP’s advocacy programs and communications. Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct and regularly update a stakeholders’ mapping and analysis and propose appropriate forms of engaging with them.
  • Develop a stakeholders engagement or communication plan to achieve their support for the UCP’s programs including the community-based social healing
  • Work closely with the UCP Executive Director to build and maintain strategic partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders, including in-person meetings, updating database information, appointment scheduling, written correspondence, etc
  • Document and analyze existing policies on trauma healing and propose issue-oriented advocacy content for communication vehicles such as emails, websites, social media, etc.
  • Together with the Executive Director and Grants and Development Manager, host key and strategic stakeholders’ events, for engagement and/or fundraising.
  • Prepare reports on the program progress for the ED, Advocacy Committee, and UCP Board of Directors, and others.
  • Work with the Executive Director on major funder proposals and reports for evidence and advocacy efforts. Assist with special projects, provide support to all UCP activities, and perform other duties as needed.
  • Represent the UCP in strategic meetings with different partners including the government, funding agencies and other partners.
  • This position reports to the Executive Director.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate for this role has a blend of education and experience as follows:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus at least five years of related experience preferred. Masters degree ideal.
  • Understanding of quantitative and qualitative methodologies as well as summative and formative research models
  • Strong written and oral communication skills: prior demonstrated research and report generation from which action, policy or system change was an outcome; comfortable with public speaking and meeting facilitation; and ability to write impeccably in a variety of styles.
  • Excellent administrative and project management skills, particularly in an environment with competing demands and overlapping projects: the ability to work independently, take initiative, establish and accomplish priorities when faced with multiple tasks, work with and without deadlines, pay close attention to details and logistics.
  • Interpersonal skills: the ability to work effectively with a wide array of constituencies and personalities, commitment and flexibility at all times.
  • Advanced computer skills – MS Office, as well as common web 2.0 tools, basic graphic design sense helpful.
  • Fluency in English, Kinyarwanda, and French required
  • Strong work ethic and work history that would evidence a commitment to UCP’s mission. A genuine passion for social healing and social justice.

Finance and Administrative Manager at Ubuntu Center for Peace: (Deadline 5 July 2020)

Position Summary:

The Finance and Administrative Manager will oversee all expenditures and supervise human resource functions like payroll, hiring, and orientation. This position will oversee procurement and recruitment integrity and compliance with UCP’s procedures and funders’ requirements. The successful candidate will be the person of contact on financial, human resource, and budgetary matters. This position reports to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Executive Director in preparation of the business plan and operational budget.
  • Monitor project budgets and provide required reporting
  • Ensure that the project meets donors and the government requirements relative to donors’ fund’s accountability and local law
  • Ensure that appropriate operations procedures and financial record-keeping policies and practices are established and maintained
  • Track and analyze all costs incurred under the project
  • Prepare vouchers for cash disbursements
  • Review receipts and documentation according to policies and procedures
  • Prepare payroll for staff, including timesheet review for approval
  • Prepare the monthly cash and bank reconciliation statements, to be reviewed and approved by the Executive Director
  • Review Purchase Orders for accuracy and completeness on a weekly basis and report any discrepancies to the Executive Director
  • Prepare project monthly expenditure reports, ensuring that they are accurate for approval by the ED
  • Management of assets and materials, office supplies, logistics for events and meetings
  • Management of the transport logistic

Qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in finance, administration, or a related area
  • A minimum of five years of demonstrated relevant experience with donor-funded programs (NGO experience is highly desirable)
  • Strong computer skills, including ease and skill in using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, email, the Internet and Microsoft Windows applications are required
  • Fluency in English, Kinyarwanda, and French required
  • Strong work ethic and work history that would evidence a commitment to UCP’s mission. A genuine passion for social healing.

Community Healing Assistants’ Supervisor at Ubuntu Center for Peace: (Deadline 5 July 2020)

Ubuntu Center for Peace strives to improve the lives of people living with traumas, through community-based social healing (CBSH) approach, which integrates movement-based embodied meditative practices including Tai-Chi, Qigong, and Yoga with storytelling, collective rituals and purposeful use of metaphors. The CBSH model is implemented by the Community Healing Assistants (CHAs) that we recruit, train, and supervise to facilitate trauma healing in the community.

Position Summary

The Community Healing Assistants’ Supervisor will ensure recruitment, training, and supervision of the CHAs, the formation, and accompaniment of the collective healing groups in their healing journeys. S/he will ensure quality implementation of the community-based social healing model.

Essential Job Role and Responsibilities

  • With the support of the local authorities, recruit Community Healing Assistants (CHAS)
  • Organize and facilitate the training of the CHAs in the community-based social healing model and group facilitation skills
  • Support the CHAs in the recruitment and formation of collective healing groups and provide the CHAs with regular supervision and mentorship to ensure a quality program implementation
  • Collect baseline and end-line data of the healing groups participants using the trauma screening instruments and social functioning assessment tools and enter them in the database shared with the TCOM and evidence and advocacy manager
  • Collect weekly data and enter them in the dashboard for analysis and program quality improvement
  • Be the direct contact person and representative of UCP at the community level
  • Keep the Training and Community Outreach Manager, the Management Team and the Executive Director informed at all times on the progress and challenges of the operational strategies;
  • Work closely with the researchers and facilitate them in their research activities;
  • Ensure that the healing group sessions are taking place in line with the community-based social healing model through regular field visits to healing group sessions, supervising the Community Healing assistants performances
  • This position reports to the Training and Community Outreach Manager

Essential skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, masters degree preferred
  • At least 3-year experience in the field of project implementation, preferably in the field of psychosocial interventions;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in psychosocial support interventions;
  • Demonstrated experience in community mobilization and attitude for fieldwork at the grassroots level;
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating adult training, supervision, and mentorship
  • Previous experience in a representative position and with networking with local authorities;
  • Commitment to the goals and principles of the community-based social healing program and an ability to ensure the mandate underpins our support to participants in the program;
  • Mastering Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • An honest, reliable and very accurate person, who is able to work under pressure;
  • Very strong motivation and social skills and excellent communication skills both verbal and in writing;
  • Ability to listen, flexible and a strong problem solver;
  • Fluent Kinyarwanda, English, and French, both verbal and written
