The Rwanda Young Water Professional Organization in partnership with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Rwanda Water Resources Board is seeking to recruit 6 professional interns for placement with the Rwanda Water Resources Board under the framework of the Embedding Integrated Water Resource Management in Rwanda (EWMR) Project.

5. COMPLIANCE WITH THE DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY

The internships will be hosted by the Rwanda Water Resources Board. Interns will therefore be expected to comply with all applicable Government of Rwanda policies and regulations
governing RWB staff. Such compliance must be exercised with due diligence and regard
for the letter, spirit and purpose of the regulations.

6. BACKGROUND

Under funding from Embassy of Kingdom of the Netherlands (EKN), The Rwanda Water
Resources Board (RWB) with technical assistance from the International Union of Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV) is implementing the “Embedding Integrated Water Resource Management in Rwanda” (EWMR) Project.
The EWMR project aims to increase livelihood and conservation benefits in Sebeya (& other) catchments from landscape restoration and improved natural resource management.

To achieve this, the project is piloting the implementation of participatory community-based approaches in the 5 sub-catchments of the Sebeya catchment with the following four key intended outcomes:

1. Restoration of degraded lands in Sebeya & other catchments;

2. Development of innovative financing mechanisms & value chains for improved livelihoods
through ecological & economic benefits;

3. Scaling up catchment and micro catchment plans in Sebeya and other Catchments; and

4. Implementing knowledge management systems for landscape restoration and integrated
water resources management.

Therefore, as part of its technical assistance to the Rwanda Water Resources Board IUCN, in partnership with the Rwanda Young Water Professional (Rwanda YWP), is seeking to recruit 6 Interns from within the Rwanda YWP network in accordance with standards and set agreed by both IUCN and Rwanda YWP with the immediate objective of supporting implementation the IWRM Investment Fund (IIF).

Please note that this is a local internship recruitment open only to Rwandan Nationals.

The positions will be based at the Rwanda Water Resources Board offices in Kigali with
possible field missions depending on specific job requirements.

7. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Working under the supervision of the RWB management, interns will be responsible for
technically supporting actions implemented by RWB divisions and departments.

8. SPECIFIC DUTIES:

The Interns will be responsible for the following main duties:

 Support Water Monitoring and Quality Control:

o Provide technical support in water data collection, storage and analysis
o Provide technical support in maintenance of water monitoring equipment
o Create field base maps.

 Support the monitoring of field activities:
o Support the divisions in recording and monitoring of ongoing activities on
ground,
o Produce related data, reports, maps, and Shapefiles,
o Report the monthly and quarterly progress in terms of reports, shapefiles and
maps

 Provide support to RWB in preparation and publication of water bulletins and reports

 Provide support to RWB in data collection, field inspections and surveys, produce
related reports and suggest follow up actions;

 Provide support to RWB in the organisation of workshops and meetings upon request.

9. INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must have graduated from a university program within the past two years. With a degree in a relevant water resources management, geography, GIS and mapping, Soil science or environmental science. He/ she must have:

 Good understanding of nature conservation in general and specifically water resources and catchment management.

 Possess skills in data collection, processing and analysis.

 Good reporting and communication skills in Kinyarwanda and English. Knowledge of
French is an added value.

 The candidate must demonstrate willingness and ability to work in difficult rural areas
with rough terrain.

 Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to undertake repetitive tasks accurately
and consistently.

 Committed to continuous learning and proactive and mature attitude towards self-
development.

 Additional Skills: MS Office Word, Excel & Power point, experience with database,
basic GIS skills, modelling tool such as WEAP and HEC-HMS/ HEC-RAS will be an
added advantage, Self-motivated, willing to take initiative, excellent organizational
skills, Demonstrated ability to write clear reports and technical information coherently
and concisely.
