Company Background

Gabiro Agribusiness Hub (GAH) Ltd Company is a fruit of a joint venture shaped between the Government of Rwanda through the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources, majority shareholder with Netafim Ltd), an Israeli company that offers global leadership in the agricultural manufacturing industry. Both parties signed a Joint Venture-JV and Engineering Procurement and Construction-EPC agreements to initiate Gabiro commercial oriented irrigation Project Phase I (5600/16000 Ha). The project shall be implemented at Karangazi sector, in Nyagatare district. Phase II of the project shall follow upon the success of Phase I.

The project consists of setting up water infrastructures mainly a lined water canal for bulk water supply from Akagera river to multiple block units of arable land, main sedimentation tank of 120,000m3, construction of internal access and site connection roads, set up demonstration farms for both agriculture and dairy farming, set up community engagement platforms, community resettlement for the families living in command areas and construction of new electric power line. 30% of the total project area shall be allocated to the community use for both intensive livestock and agricultural production, while 70% shall be reserved for private agricultural investments. The project was analyzed to be both financially viable and technically feasible with positive economic outcomes.

Job requirements

 

Hold at least A1 in Secretarial Studies, Office Management or A0 in Public Administration, Economics, Management, Logistics management, procurement, Management, Sociology, and Social Work with 4 years working experience in either one discipline presented above.

Key Technical Skills & Knowledge required:

Office Management Skills;
Excellent Communication, Time management, Organizational, Interpersonal skills, Analytical and problem-solving ability.
Computer knowledge (Microsoft Office, Internet),
Fluency in Kinyarwanda, English and/ or French; Knowledge of all is an advantage,

Main responsibilities 

 

Providing personnel administrative support to the assigned Office,
Conduct and organize administrative duties and activities including receiving, handling information and visitors to the office of the company Managing Director.
Prepare and manage correspondences, reports, and documents of the company.
Organize and record minutes of the meetings, conferences for the company‘s Managing Director.
Organize Management meetings, and ensuring that all documentation for discussions are prepared beforehand and necessary logistics in place.
Maintain schedules and calendar of meetings and appointments for the company‘s Managing Director.
Set up and maintain filing systems and standard operating procedures for the office of the Managing Director.
Maintain databases of important persons, institutions, companies of relevance to the office of the Managing Director.
Maintain all the logistic and transportation of related records for the company,
Devise methods of stock control, closely monitors warehousing management and regularly submits situation reports on stocks, equipment, and prepositioned goods,
Make a purchase order and invoice entries for field procurements.
Undertake other duties as requested.

Having Accounting Professional Qualification recognized by IFAC (ACCA, CPA) is an added value.

Maintain and monitor project plans, project schedules, work hours, budgets and expenditures.

Economics, Sociology, Community Development, Psychology, with Good knowledge of the socio-economic development environment of the region, with a minimum of 6 years of work experience in a related field.

 

Key Technical Skills & Knowledge required

 

Experience in organizing, conducting and facilitation of community mobilization meetings, round tables discussions, pieces of training, focus group discussions and community mobilization events.
Deep understanding and interpretation of agriculture policies and strategies;

Perform regular farm cost-benefit analysis,
Harmonize and approve all activities plans from the Site Technical Team, and submit to the supervisor for approval
Monitor the implementation including mobilizing farmers to support /be part of the project;
Ensure project beneficiaries representation in all phases of execution and document & communicate any change that may arise during the project implementation
Serves as a liaison officer who brings together the planned activities and supports from the relevant partners,
Carry out in-depth studies on Irrigation System functioning in the project block dedicated to community farming with an aim to recommend improved practices and innovative technologies.
Based on the experience in the field and any case studies, provide guidelines for an irrigation system and appropriate irrigation standards,
Perform monitoring and evaluation sessions of the system in the project area
Close follow up of the utilization of all developed Schemes,
Develop an operation and maintenance plan for the community-dedicated block,
Organization of monthly and quarterly meetings of communities for planning and implementation of project activities and ensuring record keeping,
Coordination with relevant stakeholders and proactively communicate any issues that might affect the project implementation and engage community support with guidance from the Project Officers.
Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Master’s Degree (MSc) in crop production, Agronomy, Agroforestry with 4 Years of working Experience in horticulture production, high-value crop commodities, seed processing, cash crop production and/or in farm extension services; or BSc in one of the above-mentioned fields with 8 years of working experience in a related field.

 

Key Technical Skills & Knowledge required

 

Deep understanding of agro-ecological features in Rwanda,
Experience in organizing, conducting and facilitation of the meetings, round tables, training, focus group discussion and community mobilization events,

Assist the farmers to access clean and improved seeds, fertilizers and putting in place a simple mechanism to access them,

Plan, design, and oversee construction of Gabiro irrigation project for conveying and distributing water to agricultural lands:
Plan and design irrigation fixtures and installation as per requirements and specifications.
Oversee and recommend the construction of irrigation systems as planned: dams/reservoirs, canals, and pressurized irrigation systems, irrigation hoses, and irrigation control devices, according to the type of soil, climatic characteristics, water supply, return flow, and other factors affecting irrigation requirements.
Conducts research on problems of soil drainage and conservation,
Approve the materials and equipment brought by the project contractor;
Monitor that the project complies with environmental safety and guidelines,
Review and approve the construction of irrigation infrastructures and schedule done by the contractor;
Supervise and monitor the contractors’ activity to ensure satisfactorily standards, quality assurance, control of workmen ship and progress;
Prepare and implement any minor adjustment required to the irrigations infrastructures drawings and plans;
Check monthly measurement of work and certify respective payment;
Report progress, trends that are likely outcome of contracts and other information required to their coordination level.
Ensure proper water distribution in the irrigation networks,
Ensure proper working of irrigation infrastructures,
Ensure proper operation and maintenance of the irrigation system,
Ensure Proper water application to the crop in the irrigation scheme,

Job requirements

 

Rwandan by nationality,
Completion of at least 6 years of primary education,
Driving license of Category B and/or C,
Having at least 5 years of driving experience of driving in public institutions or private sector proven by employer’s certificates,
Be able to speak Kinyarwanda and English or French.

 

Main responsibilities

 

Drives Company’s vehicles to transport employees on the field and /or supporting staff
Report facts concerning the accident to Company senior responsible person or law enforcement officials;
Transport staff in a safe and professional manner;
Responsible for day to day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, filling logbook, etc,
Performs minor repairs and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean.
