Africa Check Fellowship Programme 2025 for African fact-checkers and journalists (Deadline: 10 October, 2025)

Applications are now open for the 2025 Africa Check Fellowship Programme. Africa Check and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung invite African fact-checkers and journalists with a keen interest in fact-checking to apply for a 12-day fact-checking fellowship program in November 2025. The programme will be held in English at Africa Check’s offices in Kenya, Nairobi.

The Fact-Checking Fellowship Programme is a 12-day intensive training designed specifically for journalists who are committed to truth-based reporting and who actively engage in or aspire to engage in fact-checking practices. As misinformation and disinformation continue to pose serious threats to democratic dialogue, public health, and social cohesion, the programme aims to equip participants with the competencies necessary to meet these challenges head-on.

Misinformation has increasingly influenced public opinion, especially in regions where access to verified information is limited. Africa Check, a leading fact-checking organization, and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, a German foundation promoting democracy and development, have joined forces to create a training initiative that empowers journalists with not only knowledge but practical tools to counter false narratives.

Training Location and Language

The fellowship will be held in November 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya, hosted at the regional offices of Africa Check. This central location offers an ideal setting for cross-country collaboration and exchange among participants.

All training sessions will be conducted in English, ensuring clear and consistent communication throughout the programme. Participants are therefore expected to have a strong command of the English language to fully benefit from the sessions and engage in the group activities.

Requirements

The 2025 Fact-Checking Fellowship Programme is open to journalists and media professionals based in Africa. Ideal candidates are those with a demonstrated interest in fact-checking and verification, whether through their current work, past experience, or future aspirations.

Applicants should be:

    • Currently working in a media organization or as freelancers with a focus on news reporting or investigative journalism
    • Passionate about promoting accurate, ethical journalism and holding power to account
    • Willing to commit fully to the 12-day programme in Nairobi
    • Proficient in English (spoken and written)

Previous experience in fact-checking is not strictly required, but applicants must show a clear commitment to the principles of factual reporting and combating misinformation.

Application Deadline: October 10, 2025
