Global Young Academy (GYA) 2025 Call for Membership

The Global Young Academy (GYA) is now accepting applications for its 2025 intake of new members. This prestigious opportunity is aimed at young, independent scholars who exhibit not only a high level of research excellence but also a strong commitment to societal impact.

The GYA is an international, interdisciplinary network of early- to mid-career researchers and professionals. With an emphasis on diversity and inclusion, the Academy is seeking exceptional applicants from all backgrounds and disciplines.

Who Should Apply?

Eligible applicants must:

• Be early- to mid-career researchers, born in or after 1985 and holding a PhD or equivalent.
• Applicants born before 1985 must have earned their PhD in 2018 or later. Those with earlier PhDs must submit a clear justification.
• Show a track record of research excellence and potential for future contributions in their field.
• Demonstrate a passion for making an impact on society.
• Be able to contribute actively to GYA programmes and activities.

Areas of Expertise

The call is open to individuals working in any research-based discipline, including but not limited to:

• Natural and Physical Sciences
• Social Sciences
• Arts and Humanities

Applicants from government, industry, and non-governmental sectors are also welcome.

• Each GYA member is expected to:
  • Actively contribute at least 4 hours/month to GYA projects and committees.

  • Engage in science-for-policy or policy-for-science work and international academic networks.

• Next GYA Annual General Meeting: 28 June – 3 July 2026, Bremen, Germany
  (New members are expected to attend.)
